Position Overview

KSL-TV is seeking a talented motion graphic designer who will do the following:

  • Concept, design and create compelling graphics and animations for daily news shows including on-set graphics, show opens, lower thirds, wipes, and package animations (2D/3D camera tracking and compositing)
  • Design graphics & animations for special series, documentaries, promos, sales, community events, on-air package graphics, logos and print ads

Note:Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

  • This position is a hybrid/remoterole that requires the employee to sometimes work at our KSL-TV site. Specific hybrid schedules will be determined based on business needs and evaluated by managers and senior management.
  • Part-time hours will be around 28 hours per week. The shift requires availability to work the night shifts - Thursday and Friday 2:30pm - 10:30pm (subject to change based on business needs). Weekends & holidays may also be required as needed.

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Fulfill daily requests for KSL-TV news, KSL.com, KSL Sports, KSL Sports Zone, KSL Newsradio and Bonneville Distribution.
  • Learn and use newsroom software systems - Xpression.
  • Assist in Conference Documentary graphics 2x per year.

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

  • Demo reel is required for all applicants.
  • College degree in graphic design, animation, a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience designing and animating 2D/3D graphics required (Broadcast experience a plus)
  • Proficient with Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Blender (Ross XPression experience a plus)
  • Strong typography skills
  • Strong foundation in motion design, animation, tracking and compositing
  • Must understand the importance of accuracy, both in spelling and content of on-air graphics
  • Work with producers, reporters, directors, and production staff to create a professional look and maintain accuracy in all graphics
  • Positive, self-starter, capable of performing under pressure and making good decisions, particularly during peak hours
  • Willing to accept responsibilities and be able to work under minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate initiative and show innovation in problem-solving
  • Willing to learn new software and broadcast equipment
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures

Physical Demands

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Compensation

$20.00 - $23.00 per hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
