Job description

3D Graphics Engineer (Three.js / WebGL)
Department: Imerza
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Imerza
Description
We are looking for a 3D Graphics Engineer to own and advance the real-time rendering engine at the heart of our web-based digital twin platform. You will work in our Three.js and React Three Fiber rendering library, building photoreal, high-performance 3D experiences (architectural walkthroughs, immersive sales experiences, and Gaussian-splat captures of real spaces) that run in the browser across kiosks, tablets, desktops, and large-format displays.
This is a deep, specialist engineering role focused on real-time graphics, performance, and the 3D asset pipeline. You will partner with our full stack and web developers, who own the surrounding web app, CMS, and APIs, and with our content and 3D-capture teams. The rendering engine and its visual quality are yours to own and push forward.
At Imerza, we are pioneers in architectural visualization software, specializing in digital twins and real-estate marketing. We turn architectural concepts into breathtaking, immersive experiences that run everywhere from a sales-center video wall to a tablet in a buyer's hands.
Key Responsibilities
Rendering and Graphics (primary focus)
  • Build and maintain our real-time Three.js and React Three Fiber rendering engine.
  • Implement and optimize rendering features: lighting (lightmaps, HDR and image-based lighting, ambient occlusion), anti-aliasing, materials, and post-processing.
  • Integrate Gaussian splat captures alongside traditional mesh-based 3D content.
  • Write and debug GLSL shaders and custom materials.
  • Develop camera systems, navigation, waypoints, and scene interaction.

Asset and Performance Pipeline
  • Own the 3D asset pipeline: glTF and GLB optimization, Draco and mesh compression, KTX2 and Basis texture conversion, and lightmap baking.
  • Profile and optimize for frame rate, memory, and load time across constrained devices (tablets, kiosks) and large displays.
  • Use spatial structures (BVH) for fast raycasting, picking, and pathfinding.
  • Build diagnostics and debug tooling that keep visual quality and performance measurable.

Collaboration
  • Partner with full stack and web developers to expose clean, well-documented renderer APIs to the web app.
  • Work with 3D-capture, content, and design teams to bring real spaces and designs into the engine.
  • Contribute to the Nx monorepo with strong testing, code review, and documentation.
  • Help define the technical direction of immersive and photoreal experiences.

Our Stack
Core
(what you will work in daily)
  • A custom Three.js rendering engine (@imerza/threejs-renderer) built on React Three Fiber and drei, mounted inside a Next.js app.
  • Gaussian splatting via Spark (@sparkjsdev/spark) for photoreal capture of real-world spaces, rendered alongside traditional mesh-based content.
  • glTF and GLB asset pipelines with Draco compression, KTX2 and Basis textures, baked lightmaps, and HDR image-based lighting.
  • WebGL and GLSL shaders, post-processing (temporal anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion), and spatial acceleration with three-mesh-bvh.
  • WebXR immersive viewing via @react-three/xr, including a 360 viewer.
  • TypeScript throughout, in an Nx monorepo with pnpm workspaces.

Adjacent areas (owned by other engineers; good to understand)
  • The React and Next.js plus Payload CMS web app that hosts and configures the renderer.
  • Real-time digital-twin data streamed into scenes over MQTT.
  • AWS (CDK) and Docker-based on-prem deployments.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 3 to 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time spent on real-time 3D or graphics.
  • Deep proficiency with Three.js (React Three Fiber experience is a strong plus).
  • Solid WebGL and GLSL shader experience.
  • Strong TypeScript or JavaScript skills.
  • Experience with 3D asset formats and pipelines (glTF and GLB, textures, compression).
  • A strong grasp of 3D math (vectors, matrices, quaternions, transforms, and cameras).
  • Experience profiling and optimizing rendering performance and memory usage.
  • A strong eye for visual quality, lighting, and detail.

Nice to Have
  • Gaussian splatting or radiance fields (Spark, Luma, 3D Gaussian Splatting, or NeRF-adjacent work).
  • Experience with KTX2 and Basis, Draco, or meshopt compression.
  • PBR materials, baked lighting and lightmap workflows, and HDR or image-based lighting.
  • WebXR, VR, or AR (@react-three/xr or similar).
  • Familiarity with DCC tools (Blender, 3ds Max, Maya) and capture or photogrammetry pipelines (RealityCapture, Postshot, and similar).
  • Experience with Unreal Engine or another real-time engine.
  • Experience with React, Next.js, or a monorepo (Nx, Turborepo).
  • Architecture, AEC, BIM, or spatial-data background.
  • Experience with PlayCanvas

What We Offer
  • The opportunity to work on cutting-edge digital twin and immersive visualization technology.
  • A collaborative, product-driven engineering culture.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • A flexible work environment with real opportunities for growth.
