What are part business owners?

Part business owners are individuals who own a share or percentage of a business, rather than holding full ownership. They may be involved as partners, shareholders, or co-owners, sharing both the profits and responsibilities of the company. Their involvement in daily operations and decision-making can vary based on their agreement with other owners and the structure of the business. Part business owners often contribute capital, expertise, or other resources, and they play a key role in shaping the direction of the business.

What are some common challenges faced by part business owners when balancing business responsibilities with other commitments?

Part business owners often juggle their entrepreneurial duties alongside other jobs, family, or personal commitments. A common challenge is time management, as dividing attention between multiple responsibilities can lead to scheduling conflicts and increased stress. Additionally, limited availability may impact client responsiveness or the ability to scale operations quickly. To address these challenges, part business owners frequently rely on efficient planning tools, delegation, and clear communication with clients and partners to ensure smooth business operations.

What is the difference between Part Business Owner vs Part Business Manager?

AspectPart Business OwnerPart Business Manager

To thrive as a Part Business Owner, you need strong business acumen, financial management skills, and industry-specific knowledge, often supported by relevant education or entrepreneurial experience. Familiarity with accounting software, point-of-sale systems, and digital marketing tools is typically necessary. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are valuable soft skills for managing operations and building customer relationships. These skills ensure efficient business operations, sound decision-making, and the ability to respond effectively to market changes.

Position Overview
ScanSource is seeking an execution-focused Product Owner to lead the vision, roadmap, and delivery of scalable software platforms. This role is accountable for maximizing product value across the full lifecycle by translating business strategy, partner needs, customer experience goals, and operational requirements into a well-defined, prioritized product backlog. The Product Owner will serve as the primary decision-maker for product scope and priorities, ensuring that each platform is built for scale, reuse, adoption, and measurable business impact across the ScanSource ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
  • While serving as the voice of the customer, own the vision, strategy, roadmap, and backlog for each platform, ensuring alignment to business objectives, partner growth goals, and customer experience priorities.
  • Facilitate intake, prioritization, governance, and cross-functional decision-making to align stakeholders and maintain delivery momentum.
  • Lead product discovery with stakeholders, users, and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, validate needs, and define scalable platform capabilities.
  • Define high-quality business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success measures that enable efficient execution and strong delivery outcomes.
  • Drive the design and evolution of reusable platform capabilities while balancing standardization with configurable partner-specific needs.
  • Partner closely with UX/UI, engineering, architecture, QA, operations, and support teams to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and deliver intuitive, scalable, and supportable solutions.
  • Define, track, and communicate product KPIs, adoption metrics, and business value measures to guide prioritization and continuous improvement.
  • Perform, participate in, and/or facilitate Sprint Demos and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Coordinate dependencies, risks, and release readiness across teams, systems, vendors, and partner stakeholders.
  • Support rollout, change management, and ongoing optimization to drive successful adoption and long-term product value realization.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in product management, product ownership, business systems, or platform delivery roles, with demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proven experience owning and prioritizing product backlogs, writing high-quality business requirements and user stories, and defining acceptance criteria that drive strong delivery outcomes.
  • Experience with platform-based products, B2B commerce, partner ecosystems, channel operations, or enterprise applications supporting multiple user groups and business models.
  • Strong understanding of Agile product delivery, backlog management, release planning, and stakeholder governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into executable roadmaps and detailed requirements while maintaining focus on customer value and measurable results.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across business and technology teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience using data and metrics to drive prioritization and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with integrations, workflow-driven platforms, and scalable process design.
  • Experience supporting partner-facing, channel, or marketplace platforms in a multi-partner environment.
  • Relevant certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, or equivalent.

Reporting & Governance
  • Serves as the primary business owner for platform requirements, backlog prioritization, release readiness, and acceptance of delivered capabilities.
  • Partners with project and technology leadership through established governance forums, steering committee reviews, and executive updates.

Why Join ScanSource?
  • Lead a high-impact platform transformation that will shape the future of partner engagement, digital operations, and scalable growth.
  • Influence the strategy and delivery of a platform designed to support multiple partners, programs, and evolving business needs.
  • Collaborate with business, technology, UX, operations, and executive leaders in a highly visible role with enterprise impact.
  • Grow your leadership and product management capabilities while driving meaningful outcomes for partners and the business.
