ALLEN COUNTY JOB OPENING

DEPARTMENT: PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
HOURS: 24 HOURS PER WEEK
SHIFT TIME VARIES - INCLUDES NIGHTS, WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS
SALARY: $14.00 PER HOUR
DEADLINE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED

This position is part- time, non-exempt, and unclassified.
DUTIES:
  • Plan and present interpretive and outdoor recreation programs for all ages dealing with natural and cultural history subjects. Publicize these programs and interact with media representatives. Create exhibits on various subjects.
  • Train and supervise volunteers
  • Prepare reports and forms.
  • Assist with resource management activities, including prescribed burning and exotic plant control, maintaining equipment, and safely operating equipment.
  • Communicate and enforce park rules and regulations.
  • Assist with school groups as needed.
  • Assist with building maintenance and cleaning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Naturalist, education, or natural history education is essential.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Experience, education and/or training in parks and recreation, natural resources, environmental education or interpretation or related field.
  • Ability to locate, identify and document wildlife and plants, instruct visitors, develop media presentations and marketing materials.
  • Ability to express thoughts verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to legally operate a vehicle.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, weekdays and evenings to suit program needs.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
