The Department provides a wide range of year-round recreational programs, classes, sports leagues, camps, and community events serving residents of all ages. Position Under general supervision, the Recreation Assistant performs childcare supervision duties within the Parks and Recreation Department. Incumbents provide front-line customer service, assist in organizing recreation programs and events, and may lead activities or provide direction to Recreation Aides or volunteers.

Plan and lead recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
Maintain attendance records and sign-in/out procedures. Communicate with parents and guardians regarding participant activities and behavior. Ensure compliance with safety standards, emergency procedures, and mandated reporting requirements.
Provide guidance and direction to Recreation Aides assisting with childcare programs. Knowledge of Recreation program planning and group activity facilitation Childcare supervision techniques and safety practices Customer service and public interaction principles Modern office procedures and recreation registration systems Basic arithmetic and recordkeeping practices Skill to Communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff, and the public Provide high-quality customer service Organize and assist in leading recreation activities Maintain accurate records and reports Ability to Work collaboratively with diverse community members and Town staff Coordinate multiple program activities and responsibilities Exercise sound judgment in responding to participant needs, safety concerns and routine program issues Provide direction to Recreation Aides and volunteers Maintain attention to detail despite interruptions Maintain flexible work hours including evenings and weekends Lift and carry up to twenty (20) pounds Required Conditions of Employment: The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following: Successfully pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment and background check Work shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays Some positions may require a valid California Class C Driver's License or the employee must be able to provide suitable transportation which is approved by the appointing authority Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds Typical Qualifications Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Experience: One (1) year of experience in recreation programs, childcare supervision, customer service, or administrative program support is desirable.
Education: Completion of high school, or equivalent (GED), is desirable. CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
