Description The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) seeks a Park Ranger to coordinate and perform trail and natural area maintenance, and habitat conservation. The position will be a champion of ongoing stewardship of trails and natural areas. Centered around high-quality habitats and well-maintained trails, successful applicants will have knowledge of paved trail maintenance and equipment operation, as well as native and non-native plants of Oregon.
This park ranger will work in many areas of THPRD including, but not limited to: Westside Trail: a six-mile segment of regional trail from the Tigard city limits to the Tualatin Hills Nature Park. Waterhouse trail: a two-mile segment of community trail south of Walker Rd. Natural areas adjacent to trail segments, such as Mt Williams, Thornbrook Woods, and Beaverton Creek Wetlands.
What You'll Do This is an abbreviated list. For a full list of job functions and qualifications, please click here to view the job description. Maintain and enhance trails, signage, benches, asphalt surfaces and other assets; ensure safe access via vegetation and hazard management.
Patrol parks to support safety and protect natural resources. Lead volunteers and part-time staff; train others in equipment use, safety, and district procedures. Identify and manage non-native species using mechanical and chemical methods.
Answer questions and engage visitors about plants, wildlife, park rules, and district programs. What You Bring Experience using power tools, vehicles, and field equipment. Ability to work independently, make sound field decisions, and interpret district policies.
Ability to train others in safe work practices and equipment use. Knowledge of trail maintenance and natural resource practices. Skills in conflict resolution, customer service, public communication, and recordkeeping.

Anticipated recruitment process: July 29: Position closes July 30 - August 14: Application review August 15 - August 28: Selection process (may include phone screen, practical assessment, and structured interviews) Mid-September- Target start date Education and Experience Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Equivalent to high school education plus additional specialized training equal to two years college, in related field, or equivalent work-life experience, and a minimum of one (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in environmental education, habitat restoration, and identification of native plants/animals.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Oregon Driver's License with good driving record. Current Pesticide Applicators License issued by the State of Oregon is required (within 6 months of hire). Current First Aid/CPR and AED Certification, preferred.
