Summary of Position
This is work performing routine and semi-skilled duties in customer service, maintenance, repair, and construction of properties managed and operated by the Department of Parks and Recreation, including the Reuter-Hess property. While this position will primarily support Rueter-Hess Recreation, the successful candidate may also support Parks as needed.
This position is part of the career path in the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Generally, the hiring rate is $19 per hour. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary. Returning seasonal may receive a higher compensation.
As a temporary position, no benefits are available.
Example of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
  • Performs customer service functions such as greeting visitors, confirming reservations, and inspecting watercraft for aquatic nuisance species
  • Educates visitors about the rules and regulations, may occasionally assist the Park Ranger with , educational contacts, and other operational responsibilities
  • Provides general clean-up and maintenance
  • Turf and vegetation maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, aeration, fertilization, and weed management
  • Performs routine maintenance and operation of equipment
  • Performs general trail maintenance

OTHER DUTIES:
  • Support the Department of Parks and Recreation Technicians as needed
  • Works closely with staff on irrigation systems- performing installation and programming
  • Preparation of athletic fields, including baseball, softball, soccer, football, and lacrosse
  • Seasonally clear snow with shovels and equipment
  • Ability to perform strenuous labor for the entirety of the assigned shift
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • At minimum, must be enrolled in high school or a GED program. High school diploma preferred.
  • Requires some maintenance or construction experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
