POSITION TITLE: Paraprofessional for Behavioral Support
DEPARTMENT: Equity and Student Support
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Equity and Student Support
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: 185 days
DATE REVIEWED: 09/2019
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment shall be at the will of the board. The annual period of service shall be 185 days.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Support teachers of students and work directly with those students displaying maladaptive, dangerous and disruptive behaviors in the classroom. Serve as a member of the equity and student support team in the development of positive intervention plans to improve student performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students
- Collect and evaluate data using direct and indirect methods
- Provide teacher consultation and support on Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
- Provide direct instruction of behavior strategies to students, including positive reinforcement and differential reinforcement within the classroom.
- Generate and share objective session notes with implicit description of behaviors and strategies.
- Conduct individual or small group classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the teacher and behavioral plans developed by the behavioral specialist.
- In the absence of the classroom teacher, be the main source of information for the substitute
- Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other (non) instructional functions
- Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units
- Escorts children to and from various rooms
- Assists in supervising playground activities
- Monitors students when necessary, including breakfast, teacher's duty-free lunch, bus duty and during teacher planning time
- Assists with supervision of field trips, assembly programs, etc.
- Assists in administering pre and post-testing
- Pursue professional development in Applied Behavior Analysis, assessments, and implementation of behavior interventions.
- Ensures adherence to good safety procedures
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- An Associate's degree or higher; or completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or passing score on Georgia paraprofessional assessment
- 2 years work experience in paraprofessional position or similar position wherein you were required to follow specific individualized student plans and instructions provided by an educator
PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- 2 years specific work experience providing instruction to students with behavior disorders
- 2 years specific work experience generating and sharing progress and event notes including student data
- Prior work experience and familiarity with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
- Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician
EVALUATION: Performance of this job shall be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: To perform the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, or hear. Lifting up to 30 pounds may be required on an occasional basis. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision and distance vision.

Salary Range: From/To
$17,213 to $29,993 based upon verified years of relative work experience
Additional Job Information
This position will not be assigned to a single school. The position may require the staff member to go to more than one school in the same day. Occasional evening work or non-customary hours may be required in order that the staff member may participate in planning sessions and professional learning sessions.
