How much do parametric modelling jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 31, 2026, the average yearly pay for parametric modelling in the United States is $58,552.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $47,500.00 and $67,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is parametric modelling?

A Parametric Modelling job involves creating digital models that use parameters and algorithms to automate design processes and generate adaptive, data-driven geometry. Professionals in this role work with software like Rhino with Grasshopper, Revit, or SolidWorks to develop intelligent models that update dynamically based on input variables. These models are widely used in architecture, engineering, and product design to optimize efficiency, accuracy, and customization.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in parametric modelling?

Professionals in Parametric Modelling spend their days developing, testing, and refining digital models that respond to specific design or engineering parameters. This involves close collaboration with architects, engineers, and project managers to understand requirements and adjust models based on evolving project needs. They also troubleshoot computational problems, document workflows, and may present their solutions to stakeholders. The role often requires balancing technical precision with creative problem-solving, ensuring that the models produced are both functional and innovative.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in parametric modelling, and why are they important?

To excel in Parametric Modelling, you need a solid background in mathematics, geometry, and computational design, often supported by a degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with software such as Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, or Dynamo, and knowledge of programming languages like Python, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, an eye for detail, and effective collaboration and communication skills help you work efficiently with interdisciplinary teams. These competencies enable you to produce accurate, innovative, and adaptable models that meet complex project requirements.

Is parametric modelling a high paying job?

Parametric modelling is a specialized skill often used in architecture, engineering, and product design, and salaries can vary based on experience, location, and industry. Generally, professionals with strong skills in CAD software and 3D modeling can earn competitive wages, especially with advanced expertise or certifications. However, it is not universally considered a high-paying role compared to other technical or managerial positions.

Job description

Company Description

At the preseason tryouts for the U.S. Boomerang Team in Greenfield, Mass., one figure stands out among the hacky sack players and pizza delivery guys gathering in the soccer fields, limbering up their throwing arms.

Eric Darnell, a soft-spoken 62-year-old Quaker and backyard inventor from South Stafford, Vt., has brought 60 of his latest handmade boomerang prototypes, along with several notebooks, two windsocks and printouts of weather forecasts. While others just hurl their rangs -- as aficionados call them -- Darnell tries to be as meticulous and scientific as possible about the objects he refers to as "my kinetic sculptures."

Job Description

This is what you will do:

  1. Work as part of an international team on one or multiple projects

  2. Think and work like an entrepreneur. Lots of freedom, lots of responsibility.

  3. Take complicated user requirements and translate them into simple, intuitive UI/UX

  4. Take ownership for everything related to design

Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field, MS preferred
  • 4+ years experience, consumer electronics product development
  • Experience with high volume, highly cosmetic electronics enclosure materials and manufacturing processes
  • Experience integrating electromechanical component modules (audio, display, battery, antenna, PCB's, etc.)
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (ProE preferred) including top-down design, robust parametric modelling, and advanced surface generation
  • Product validation experience (UL, FCC, environmental testing, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with shop tools and prototyping
  • Demonstrated project leadership and mentoring skills
