The Panel Shop Lead Technician – Manufacturing & Installation plays a hands-on leadership role in the build and wiring of electrical control panels for internal and external customers at Pillar Innovations. This position is suited for an experienced technician with a strong understanding of electrical control panels and wiring practices who can lead by example on the shop floor. In addition to building and troubleshooting panels, this role helps guide daily work, support quality standards, and mentor technicians by sharing knowledge and best practices.

The position requires flexibility for extended hours as needed and occasional travel to customer sites, sometimes with overnight stays. If you enjoy combining technical expertise with leadership and helping others succeed, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.


General Duties

  • Exercise safe electrical practices
  • Assist personnel in identifying hazards while performing duties
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
  • Recognize any necessary revisions for As-Built drawings, record project notes for process improvement, and report needed revisions to Foreman and/or Project Manager
  • Identify and implement areas for efficiency gains in overall processes in collaboration with the Panel Shop Foreman
  • Assist Panel Shop Foreman with Quality Control tasks
  • Assist Project Managers and the Panel Shop Foreman with customer communications as needed
  • Ensure project documents are accurate and complete
  • Assist with on-site installations as needed
  • Train and mentor Panel Shop Techs

Layout & Panel Building

  • Oversee and act as a resource to Panel Shop Techs related to panel building duties
  • Perform panel building duties as needed

Control Wiring

  • Provide oversight for control panel wiring and assembly
  • Provide insight to Engineers in the design process as requested
  • Perform control wiring duties as needed
  • Oversee testing of finished panels

Electronics & Soldering

  • Oversee and act as a resource to Panel Shop Techs related to electronics & soldering duties
  • Perform electronics & soldering duties as needed
  • Provide insight to Engineers in the design process as requested

Powered Systems

  • Stay up-to-date with and ensure Panel Shop Technicians follow electrical codes and safe wiring practices
  • Lead the installation of energized systems
  • Oversee the function testing of completed systems
  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting

Working Conditions

  • Stand for an extended period of time
  • Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / crawl / kneel
  • The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • 5+ years’ experience and/or education in electrical related work preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Ability to oversee small projects
  • Assist Shop Foreman with Quality Control tasks
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot electrical circuits, boards, etc.
  • Ability to differentiate color codes
  • Ability to read, interpret, and mark up electrical schematics
  • Proficient in electrical theory and shop standards
  • Proficient in the use of basic and advanced hand and power tools such as pliers, hacksaws, wire strippers, multimeters, drills, grinders, etc.
