The Paint Prep Technician position is responsible for preparing transformer units for paint by cleaning, applying filler, taping, and sanding. Compliance with all safety requirements, product quality standards and company policies are essential functions of this role.
  • Review checklist and follow work order instructions to ensure compliance with specifications

  • Transporting transformer units to their assigned area in the paint department by utilizing material handling equipment (forklift, crane, etc.)

  • Assess and identify units for defects prior to prep, escalate defect issues to lead or supervisor if discovered

  • Prepare transformer unit for paint by removing stickers, sticker glue, applying filler, taping, sanding, and cleaning.

  • Perform quality checks and verify unit is not leaking before it leaves the area for paint

  • Following all safety protocols which includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), respirator, glove, safety glasses, etc.

  • Maintain safe, clean and orderly workstation and area.

  • Other duties assigned as needed.

Requirements
• High School or GED preferred
• OSHA10 certified, preferred
• 1 year experience in paint manufacturing, preferred
• 1 year experience material handling equipment (forklift, crane, etc.), preferred
• Knowledge of basic hand tools preferred
• A proven track record in safety excellence is required.
• Adheres to all safety and environmental compliance regulations set by the organization. Notify management immediately of any safety concerns, hazardous conditions, or injuries.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders.
• Meet department and production goals set by supervisor.
• Ensure product quality meets company and client expectations.
• Possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, cooperative attitude, strong attention to detail and can work in a team environment.
• Adheres to the company's employee handbook policies and embodies the organization's core values.
• Ability to learn other department job functions and fill in as needed.
• Complete company compliance and safety training when required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and work under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
• Physical requirements for this role include, but are not limited to the following:
o Safety protocols require the completion and passing of a respiratory fit test
o Lift 50lbs floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times
o Standing and walking for long durations
o Bending, squatting, and kneeling multiple times for long durations
o The ability to climb up and down a ladder multiple times
o Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods of time
o Comfortable working in the heat and cold due to manufacturing facilities not being climate controlled
