What is a Paint Correction job?

Paint correction is the process of removing surface imperfections from a vehicle's paint, such as swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation, and holograms. This is done using machine polishing techniques and abrasive compounds to restore the paint's clarity and shine. Unlike waxing or sealing, paint correction permanently improves the paint rather than just covering defects. It enhances the overall appearance, making the vehicle look newer and glossier. Proper maintenance after correction helps preserve the results for the long term.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Paint Correction position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Paint Correction, you need a thorough understanding of automotive paint systems, surface preparation, and polishing techniques, often gained through hands-on experience or specialized training. Familiarity with machine polishers, paint thickness gauges, and various compounds and pads is essential, and certifications from detailing organizations can be beneficial. Attention to detail, patience, and strong communication skills enable success in identifying imperfections and meeting customer expectations. These abilities are crucial to consistently delivering high-quality results and maintaining customer satisfaction in an appearance-driven industry.

What are some common challenges someone in a Paint Correction role might face?

One of the most common challenges in paint correction is dealing with a wide range of paint types and defects, from light swirls to deeper scratches, which require tailored approaches for optimal results. Technicians also need to carefully assess paint thickness to avoid causing permanent damage when correcting imperfections. The role frequently involves standing for extended periods and working in various environmental conditions, such as detailing shops or on-site locations. Successful paint correction specialists develop problem-solving skills to adapt to each vehicle’s unique needs and often collaborate with other detailing staff or customer service representatives to ensure client satisfaction.

About Us:

We are a premier automotive protection and detailing facility specializing in high-end paint correction, Paint Protection Film (PPF), and ceramic coatings. We pride ourselves on executing flawless work on some of the finest vehicles on the road. We are growing fast and urgently hiring a dedicated, detail-oriented Detailing Team Member & Shop Prep Technician to join our tight-knit team.

If you have a strong work ethic, a passion for cars, and want to learn the highest tier of the automotive preservation industry from the ground up, we want to hear from you.

Job Summary:

The Detailing Team Member / Shop Prep Technician is the backbone of our shop’s daily operations. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring every vehicle is flawlessly prepped for our advanced correction, PPF, and coating processes. You will handle everything from meticulous decontaminations and interior cleanings to helping with light vehicle disassembly, applying coatings, and keeping the shop environment pristine and organized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle Prep & Washing: Perform thorough multi-stage hand washes, wheel cleanings, and paint decontaminations (clay bar, iron removers) to prepare vehicles perfectly for paint correction and PPF installation.

  • Polishing & Correction: Assist with multi-stage machine polishing and paint correction as skills progress.
  • Vehicle Disassembly: Safely assist senior technicians with removing badges, trim, door handles, or bumpers to allow for seamless PPF wrap edges.
  • Shop Support & Organization: Maintain a spotlessly clean and organized shop floor. Keep product shelves fully stocked and notify management when supplies run low. Move cars around the shop and into the front parking lot
  • Shop Laundry: Manage the daily laundering, sorting, and proper storage of microfiber towels/pads.
  • Final Check Out Inspections: Making sure the car leaves as it should

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience: 1–2 years of professional automotive detailing experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Attention to Detail: A sharp eye for missed spots, dust, and imperfections. You must care about the small things.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and possesses a valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required to safely move client vehicles).
  • Team Player: Positive attitude, eager to learn new skills, and capable of taking direction from senior PPF and coating installers.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Pay Rate: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour (starting pay based on experience and skillset)
  • Pay Frequency: Bi-weekly
  • Benefits Package: * Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance (available immediately following a standard 90-day probationary period)
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with company match
  • Paid training and massive opportunities for career growth into paint correction, high-end coating application, and PPF installation.

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday (occasional weekend availability depending on shop volume)
  • 7am to 330pm (30 min lunch)

Ability to Commute/Relocate:

  • Dental insurance
