How much do paint correction jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for paint correction in Texas is $19.74, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.11 and $21.49 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is paint correction?

Paint correction is the process of removing surface imperfections from a vehicle's paint, such as swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation, and holograms. This is done using machine polishing techniques and abrasive compounds to restore the paint's clarity and shine. Unlike waxing or sealing, paint correction permanently improves the paint rather than just covering defects. It enhances the overall appearance, making the vehicle look newer and glossier. Proper maintenance after correction helps preserve the results for the long term.

What are common challenges in paint correction?

One of the most common challenges in paint correction is dealing with a wide range of paint types and defects, from light swirls to deeper scratches, which require tailored approaches for optimal results. Technicians also need to carefully assess paint thickness to avoid causing permanent damage when correcting imperfections. The role frequently involves standing for extended periods and working in various environmental conditions, such as detailing shops or on-site locations. Successful paint correction specialists develop problem-solving skills to adapt to each vehicle’s unique needs and often collaborate with other detailing staff or customer service representatives to ensure client satisfaction.

What skills and qualifications are needed for paint correction?

To thrive in Paint Correction, you need a thorough understanding of automotive paint systems, surface preparation, and polishing techniques, often gained through hands-on experience or specialized training. Familiarity with machine polishers, paint thickness gauges, and various compounds and pads is essential, and certifications from detailing organizations can be beneficial. Attention to detail, patience, and strong communication skills enable success in identifying imperfections and meeting customer expectations. These abilities are crucial to consistently delivering high-quality results and maintaining customer satisfaction in an appearance-driven industry.

Job description

About the Job
Cowboy Coating - Frisco, TX
We're Hiring: Automotive Detailer
Cowboy Coating is looking for an experienced In-Shop Automotive Detailer to join our team at our Frisco location.
This is not a basic car-washing or entry-level detailing position. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their craft and has a strong eye for detail, with experience in paint correction, ceramic coating installation, and high-end automotive detailing.
Our Frisco shop is one of three Cowboy Coating locations, and we are continuing to grow. We're looking for someone who wants to become part of a professional team and grow with an expanding company.
What You'll Be Doing
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
  • Performing multi-stage paint corrections.
  • Installing professional-grade ceramic coatings.
  • Performing high-end interior and exterior detailing.
  • Properly preparing vehicles for ceramic coating installation.
  • Paint decontamination, clay bar treatment, polishing, and finishing.
  • Inspecting your work to ensure it meets our quality standards.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, professional work environment.
  • Properly caring for and maintaining detailing equipment.
  • Communicating professionally with customers when needed.
  • Delivering a 5-star customer experience from vehicle drop-off to completion.
Our Standards:
At Cowboy Coating, we are obsessive about quality.
Every vehicle that leaves our shop needs to look its absolute best. That means paying attention to the small details, properly inspecting your work, and never being satisfied with "good enough."
You will be expected to maintain our 5-star standards for both workmanship and customer service.
All work is performed inside our temperature-controlled professional shop, giving you a clean, comfortable environment to work in year-round.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate:
  • Has professional detailing experience.
  • Has hands-on experience with paint correction.
  • Has experience installing ceramic coatings.
  • Has a strong eye for imperfections and attention to detail.
  • Takes pride in producing high-quality work.
  • Is reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
  • Can work efficiently while maintaining quality.
  • Understands the importance of customer service.
  • Takes care of tools, equipment, and the shop.
  • Wants to grow with a rapidly expanding company.
  • Experience with paint correction and ceramic coating is strongly preferred.

Why Cowboy Coating?
You won't be working outside in the heat or cold or doing mobile detailing in a driveway.
You'll be working inside a professional, temperature-controlled shop with the equipment and environment necessary to produce high-end results.
Cowboy Coating currently operates three locations, and we're continuing to grow. This is an opportunity to join a company where your skill, work ethic, and attention to detail can directly contribute to the growth of the location.
If you're passionate about automotive detailing and want to work somewhere that genuinely cares about the quality of the finished product, we want to meet you.
