A typical day for a Pacemaker Tech involves conducting pacemaker checks, device interrogations, and troubleshooting pacemaker issues both in outpatient clinics and during hospital rounds. You’ll work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other members of the cardiac team to interpret device data, optimize settings, and ensure patients’ devices are functioning correctly. Pacemaker Techs also educate patients about their devices and may assist with intraoperative device programming during implants or replacements. This collaborative environment provides both variety and the opportunity to have a direct, positive impact on patient well-being while gaining valuable experience in advanced cardiac care.
A Pacemaker Technician is a healthcare professional who specializes in monitoring, programming, and troubleshooting pacemakers and implantable cardiac devices. They work closely with cardiologists to ensure that patients' devices function properly and meet their medical needs. Their duties include conducting device checks, analyzing data, and educating patients on proper device care. Pacemaker Techs typically work in hospitals, clinics, or cardiology offices.
To thrive as a Pacemaker Tech, you need a solid background in cardiac physiology, electrophysiology, and medical device technology, often obtained through specialized training or certification programs. Familiarity with pacemaker programmers, telemetry systems, and compliance with certification requirements like Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) or Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) is essential. Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills distinguish top performers in this field. Mastery of these competencies is crucial for ensuring accurate device function, patient safety, and effective coordination with healthcare teams.

ResponsibilitiesAssists physicians during electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker/ICD insertions, radiofrequency ablation, and other miscellaneous procedures required by operating the electrophysiology recorder, hemodynamic monitoring computer and/or scrubbing for invasive cardiac and vascular procedures. Provides patient care to adult and geriatric patients.
Hours: 4x10 (7a-5:30p) Monday - Friday
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
1. Must possess one (1) of the following: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), Registered Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES), IBHRE, CEPS (Certified Electrophysiology Specialist) and/or prior applicable training/experience in invasive cardiology and/or electrophysiology.
2. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
3. Thorough knowledge of cardiac arrhythmia interpretation.
4. Must obtain advanced specialty certification within two years of hire date.
