Job description

Position Overview:

The Overnight Youth Care Breaker’s primary function is to provide support to the Overnight Youth Care Specialist staff and ensure breaks are given in order for staff to be fully alert upon their return to the floor. The Overnight Youth Care Breaker is expected to assist staff with their duties relating to the milieu both before and after breaks are issued and will be assigned by the Overnight Youth Care Specialist Supervisor to those programs that need more support. Additionally, the Overnight Youth Care Breaker is expected to provide therapeutic and nurturing supports to emotionally, psychiatrically and/or behaviorally challenged youth. The Overnight Youth Care Breaker shall use learned skills and professional knowledge to bring about positive changes. Employee will be an integral member of an inter-disciplinary team and expected to attend department team meetings, annual trainings, and participate in supervision to build the therapeutic milieu and address specific youth needs. The Overnight Youth Care Breaker shall carry out their duties during the overnight hours as an awake and alert staff member between various residential programs.

Position Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED, required. Some college, preferred. Experience working with youth in schools, residential treatment or related settings, one year required. Experience working directly with seriously emotionally disturbed and/or delinquent youth, preferred. Experience with crisis management, preferred. Ability to physically carry out restraints, as necessary.
