Job description

Job Description:
The Demo Laborer will be trained to safely operate torch equipment to downsize heavy metal in order to meet specs in a safe and efficient manner. They will also be trained to operate mobile equipment. The successful candidate must have excellent attendance and be able to work with minimal supervision. This position requires staying out of town 4 days per week, home Friday through Sunday. Hotels are paid and $40 a day per diem pay given to cover meals. A valid driver's license is required and for this position a background with no felonies is required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Operate various fixed equipment (torch rig, shear crane, etc.).
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
  • Shows a safety-first mindset; recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.

  • Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 12 hours; frequent physical activity such as walking, reaching to work with equipment throughout the entire shift.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Push and pull up to 90 lbs. and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work with exposure to extremes in temperature, uneven surfaces, loud noise, and elevated work areas.

Experience and Skill Requirements:
  • Ability to learn and recall scrap commodities and operating procedures.
  • Ability to document and maintain procedures and record keeping for equipment.
  • Must be able to work a 10–12-hour shift.
  • Ability to work in various types of weather conditions which include extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to use effective listening skills to identify important information and to engage internal and external customers.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work.
  • Equipment operating experience is a PLUS!

Important: This position will start out locally with no overnight travel. Starting rate is $16.50 an hour with up to 50 hours a week. You may be working in our yard or traveling short distances assisting our driver with demo projects. Eventually you will be assigned to an out-of-town crew. Your pay will be increased as you gain experience. In addition to your hourly wage you will receive $40 a day per diem pay when working over-night.
