Job description

About the role

Join our chemical manufacturing plant near Midway Airport on Chicagoโ€™s Southwest Side as an experienced maintenance professional who keeps people, equipment, and processes running safely. Youโ€™ll rotate across first and second shift coverage with the team, and as business needs arise youโ€™ll step up for overtime, weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hours call-ins. A strong electrical background is mandatory; welding experience will set you apart.

A day in your life

You arrive to a dynamic production floor where batches are blending and utilities are humming. Your morning might start by verifying the fire protection system is healthy, reviewing overnight work orders in AMMS, and coordinating with operations on priorities. From there, you could:

  • Troubleshoot three-phase circuits, run and bend conduit, land and wire motors, and bring a mixer back online before the next batch.
  • Diagnose and repair process equipmentโ€”vacuum pumps, drum turners, mixers, boilers, steam systems, and air compressorsโ€”to minimize downtime.
  • Install or service piping and associated hydraulic/pneumatic components: valves, gauges, regulators, and related hardware.
  • Execute preventive tasks: inspect drives, motors, and belts; check fluids; change filters; and complete other PMs to extend asset life.
  • Support new installs and upgradesโ€”equipment placement, electrical drops, pipe runsโ€”and help with startup and commissioning.
  • Record all work performed with clear notes and parts used to keep our maintenance history accurate.
  • Meet safety expectations every time: follow OSHA requirements and plant procedures including hot work permits, lockout/tagout, PPE, fall protection, and confined space practices.
  • Pitch in on facilities work like light carpentry, grounds upkeep, and snow removalโ€”sometimes in inclement weather.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or GED, plus a related associateโ€™s degree, trade certificate, or completed apprenticeship from a vocational/technical school or college.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience; chemical processing exposure (mixers, pumps, steam, fabrication, electrical, welding) preferred.
  • Comfort with math used in maintenance and fabrication.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, machine tools, and pressure indication devices.
  • Foundational plumbing and pipefitting abilities.
  • Basic computer literacy to use the intranet, AMMS, and online training.
  • Ability to operate powered industrial trucks (forklifts, scissor lifts) safely.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with an acceptable driving record to operate a company vehicle when needed.
  • Clear English communicationโ€”spoken, written, and readingโ€”across teams and shifts.
  • Collaborative mindset to troubleshoot, determine root causes, and implement fixes with maintenance and operations partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and on-time completion of assignments; tidy, hazard-free work habits.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Physical and environmental realities
  • Expect frequent reaching and fine motor work with hands; regular talking and hearing.
  • Work positions include standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
  • Lift/move up to 70 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Vision needs include near and far acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Must be medically cleared and fit-tested to wear a respirator for certain tasks; able to work in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to moving machinery and airborne particles is routine; wet/humid conditions and electrical hazards are common.
  • Occasional work at heights, outdoors, and in temperature extremes (heat and cold). Noise levels vary by area from quiet to loud.
Compensation and schedule

We offer competitive pay and benefits. Relocation assistance is not available.
