POSITION: Machine Operator

2nd (3:30pm - 12Midnight)

GENERAL PURPOSE:

To operate all equipment necessary in a safe and efficient manner to produce product for the customer. To verify product quality and packaging requirements based on instructions provided by the Quality Department and per the Standard Operations Manual. To keep the work area clean and orderly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

1. Be at the press at the start of your shift prepared with all materials needed to do the job (production sheets, knife, cutters, pen or pencil, safety glasses, etc.).

2. Understand and follow standard operation manuals for each job to correctly produce and package a finished quality product.

3. Follow the instructions of the person in charge of training when learning all jobs.

4. Operate the machine in a safe and timely manner (cycle time) while making sure all parts and runners have fallen or been removed from the mold to prevent damage to the mold.

5. Trim and do all related secondary operations done at the press per operations manual.

6. Accurately complete production report with all necessary information including production numbers, downtime, scrap, etc.

7. Identify each carton with name, date, shift, and record accurate first and last partial quantities.

8. Must know basic knowledge of grinder usage and how to identify material being used so scrap and runner are ground in the correct grinder.

9. Offer suggestion on ways to improve part quality and production rates.

10. Relay all information available to break persons and the on-coming shift (how the press ran, problem areas, packaging requirements, etc.).

11. Will be responsible for cleaning your press and work area (excluding moving parts and heated barrel area on press). Housekeeping is an important part of safety for you and your coworkers. Keeping your work area free of debris such as runners, parts and oil will keep slipping and tripping accidents to a minimum.

12. All work table tops should be free of objects other than tools, fixtures, cartons, etc., that are required for production. All personal items must be kept in lockers.

13. All catch chutes; boxes or scrap bins must be cleaned or emptied at the end of shift.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is a physically demanding and safety-sensitive position, which requires employees to stand on their feet for most of an eight- (8) hour shift. To perform the essential functions of this job, employees must be able to meet the following physical requirements.

1. Employees must be able to repeatedly bend, stoop, reach and twist for most of an 8-hour shift in temperatures usually over 75 degrees F.

2. Frequent and repetitious use of a gate cutter and utility knife is required, which necessitates repetitious gripping, squeezing and similar manipulation of tools.

3. Employees must be able to lift equipment and materials on a frequent and recurring basis up to 35 lbs.

4. Employees must have adequate vision ability to complete with a high degree and accuracy detailed inspection of molded parts to meet strict quality control standards and customer specifications.

Employees must have adequate communication skills to read and understand instructions and safety procedures, to understand and comply with supervisory instructions, and to communicate problems or difficulties.
