Job description

Corporate Counsel, Content Acquisition and Business Development

Brooklyn, New York

Build the Future of TV

We're a scrappy, ambitious team that moves fast, thinks big, and genuinely loveswhat we build, and we're looking for a sharp, business-minded lawyer to help usget there. If you want to spend your days on meaningful deals that shape howpeople watch TV, this is your role.

What We're Building

Philo delivers a live TV streaming experience that's smarter, simpler, and moredelightful than anything else out there. Philo’s vMVPD service includes 70+channels, including top-tier networks like Paramount Network, AMC, Lifetime,Comedy Central, Discovery, Nickelodeon and MTV, unlimited DVR, and whenmade available as part of Philo’s Bundle+ service, ad-supported premium servicesHBO, AMC+, and discovery+. Philo also makes available premium add-ons likeSTARZ and MGM+, and a "FAST" (free ad-supported streaming) service with morethan 150 channels.

We're backed by NEA, and Mark Cuban Companies, among others, and industryheavyweights including Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount Skydance, AMC, andA&E. We have offices in Brooklyn, NY, San Francisco, CA and Cambridge, MA.

The Legal Team

Our Legal Team's mission is to be a true partner to the business — deliveringpractical, creative solutions that help Philo move fast and win. We're a small,high-impact team: a CLO, a tight in-house group, and relationships with topoutside firms. We punch well above our weight, and we're growing. You'll be ameaningful part of that, working out of our Brooklyn, NY office where two seniorlawyers and our CEO, CFO and other high-level executives are also situated.

What You'll Do

You'll sit at the intersection of law and deal-making, working hand-in-hand with two senior lawyers supporting our content acquisition and business development teams on the deals that define what content Philo offers and how we grow. Thatmeans negotiating and drafting the real thing — content license agreements, platform deals, production agreements, vendor MSAs and SOWs, and IOs. Notreviewing. Not supervising. Actually in the room, driving deals to close.

Beyond the deal table, you'll be the kind of lawyer who leans into whatever the business needs — releases, clearances, IP questions, takedowns, technology/SAAS agreements, the occasional thing nobody saw coming. You'll help build out ourlegal playbooks, develop templates and best practices, and make the teamsmarter and more efficient over time.

This is a role with real scope, real autonomy, and real impact from day one.

What You Bring
  • 5–10 years of legal experience, including hands-on experience withtelevision licensing (network affiliation, FAST); experience with platformdeals a plus
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active New York Barmembership
  • The instincts to give practical, business-savvy advice — not just legallycorrect but actually useful
  • A low ego and a high output: you'd rather solve problems than protect turf
  • Genuine enthusiasm for media and entertainment — you care about theproduct and the industry, not just the deals
