Job description

Summary

Operates rubber-tired vehicle equipped with power driven diamond blades, used to grind off top layers of asphalt or concrete to correct defected areas of the surface by performing the following duties

The requirements represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to fulfill position expectations. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Inspects and maintains grinding equipment such as tracks, lights, grinding teeth, back-up alarm, brakes, fuel (diesel), oil, water and all other fluids levels.
  • Starts engine, turns on lights, operates turning levers, presses pedals, to operate grinding machine.
  • Monitors traffic area to avoid accidental intrusion into open lanes.
  • Communicates intentions to ground person to avoid accidental injury.
  • Cleans windows, mirrors, removes garbage, and maintains interior of equipment in good working condition.
  • Performs preventative maintenance service and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Reports to supervisor at end of each day to leave timecard, fuel receipts/usage, mileage, and other information as well as receive instruction for next days work assignments.
  • Secondary functions of general laborer or other duties may be assigned.
  • Operates in a safe manner and abides with traffic laws, rules, and regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations and company rules and safety policies.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight in Iowa during the week.
  • Knowledge of heavy highway construction required.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles to and from job sites.
  • Class A CDL required with tanker endorsement
  • Perform general construction tasks.
  • Work as part of a team.

Education and/or Experience                                                    

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  

Mathematical Skills                                                      

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability                                                          

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends during peak season.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor and in industrial environments.
  • Ability to work seasonally.
  • Acceptable driving record and a vehicle to get to the various job sites.
