Purpose of Department:
The Office of Student Life at William Peace University strives to enhance the Pacer experience through the development of the whole student from deposit until graduation.
Summary of Position:
The Director of Student Involvement is responsible for identifying, developing and training student leaders; developing, organizing, and facilitating a university-wide leadership program; advising the Student Government and Programming Association; organizing and managing a process to assess student programs and events; advising students and registering student organizations in event planning and management; supervising and training full time, graduate, and student staff members as assigned; and assisting in the development and implementation of student life programs, policies and procedures. May share in an on-call rotation; responding to student crisis situations after hours.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life, the individual holding this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
Orientation and Family Services
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and assessment of the University Onboarding programs including New Student, Transfer, and Parent/Family Orientation
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Orientation Leaders
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction for Family Services, including family engagement initiatives, family communications, and events that support student success, in collaboration with campus partners.

Student Government and Programming Association and Registered Student Organizations
  • Serve as the executive-level advisor to the Student Government and Programming Association (SGPA) executive council including conducting regular one-on-one meetings with the President and Vice President.
  • Manage the election process for Student Government Programming Association
  • Collaborate with SGPA on the allocation and regulation of the Student Activity Fee account to support campus-wide programs related to student organizations or campus departments
  • Oversee all conduct related to RSOs, including the creation and enforcement of campus policies, internal and external behaviors and risk management
  • Oversee and assess all training related to student organizations
  • Assist in the development and implementation of campus programming and events sponsored by SGPA
  • Advise and/or plan all major campus-wide traditions including but not limited to Fall Cocktail, Red Rose Ball, Traditions Dinner, WPU Holiday Celebration and Last Day of Classes Festival (LDOC), including event logistics, budget and vendor management and assessment
  • Collaborate with SGPA to oversee Student Life Facilities including the SGPA office space and the game room
  • Plan and execute annual student and alumni programming, travel opportunities, and commencement events

Leadership Development
  • Develop and implement strategic goals and programs to enhance the leadership development of the Traditional Undergraduate population
  • Create and oversee the implementation of leadership development programming including trainings, overnight retreats, workshops
  • Foster collaborative relationships with Academic Affairs and other Student Life partners to strengthen leadership programming

Civic Engagement and Community Service
  • Provide oversight to the Program Coordinator of Student Life to create a robust and comprehensive civic engagement program
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of the annual MLK Day of Service, Alternative Fall Break and Alternative Spring Break programs
  • Ensure compliance with federal mandates related to community service and reporting of service hours

Office Oversight and General Duties
  • Oversee department assessment
  • Oversee various Student Activity budgets
  • Create marketing and communication for students regarding student involvement activities
  • Manage Student Life social media
  • Serve on various University committees
  • Evaluate and assess office's programming, policies and procedures on a regular basis including the completion of the institution's annual institutional effectiveness process
  • Serve as the primary contract negotiator and executor for the office and its recognized organizations, in compliance with university policy and fiscal procedure
  • Cultivate meaningful partnerships and collaborative opportunities with constituents on and off-campus
  • Oversee the office's representation at various campus events, admissions programs and presentations to classes including Peace Preview and Admitted Students Day
  • Perform other job-related duties and projects assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Directly supervise the Assistant Director of Student Life, Program Coordinator for Student Life, and the Student and Family Specialist. Indirectly supervise Graduate Assistants, Interns, and Orientation Leaders. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and rewarding and disciplining employees.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in higher education (or related field) with 5 years of experience in a higher education institution or Master's Degree in higher education (or related field) with 3 years of experience in a higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience at a small private institution, experience advising student organization, experience working with student government associations, supervision experience.
