Summary:

The Sales Representative is responsible for representing, selling, and servicing Fabricut, Stroheim, Vervain, S. Harris, and Trend throughout an assigned territory, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota. This position is responsible for growing territory sales volume and profitability by developing strong, long-term customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and executing the sales strategies established by the Sales Manager.


The ideal candidate will be based in the greater Minneapolis, Minnesota area, within approximately 20 miles of Minneapolis, and will be responsible for regular travel throughout the assigned territory. Up to 50% travel is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent Fabricut, Stroheim, Vervain, S. Harris, and Trend in a professional manner, maintaining a polished appearance and high level of customer service.
  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent visit schedule for assigned accounts.
  • Grow market share by generating additional business within established accounts and proactively prospecting for new customers.
  • Increase cut-order sales and overall territory profitability through effective product knowledge, customer development, and sales techniques.
  • Consistently meet or exceed established sales call expectations, sales quotas, and territory objectives.
  • Plan, prepare for, and execute effective customer sales calls, including identifying customer needs, presenting appropriate products, and following up on opportunities.
  • Evaluate customer needs through effective use of sales reports, printouts, product information, and other available sales tools.
  • Recommend products based on customer needs, including fabric type, quantity, color, texture, weave, performance characteristics, and washability.
  • Advise customers on coordinating and harmonizing fabric colors, patterns, and textures to meet their specific needs.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of products, pricing, availability, backorders, substitutions, new programs, and piece goods.
  • Effectively introduce and sell new product programs and piece goods to existing and prospective customers.
  • Provide appropriate product samples and maintain sample books using effective sample management techniques.
  • Ensure sample books and other customer-facing materials are updated regularly and accurately.
  • Accurately enter, process, and monitor customer orders, ensuring timely follow-up and appropriate documentation.
  • Track sales activity, customer interactions, order status, follow-up opportunities, and progress toward territory goals.
  • Respond to customer questions, concerns, and problems promptly and professionally, providing appropriate solutions and following through to resolution.
  • Partner and communicate effectively with internal departments to ensure customers receive timely and effective service.
  • Maintain a high level of product and industry knowledge to effectively support customers and identify sales opportunities.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and professionalism when addressing customer concerns and resolving challenges.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and sales programs.
  • Maintain good safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Use company materials, equipment, technology, and resources effectively and responsibly.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires a combination of sitting, standing, walking, driving, and physical activity throughout the workday. Employees must be able to communicate effectively, read, hear, and see for extended periods.

Key physical requirements include:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during an 8-hour workday.
  • Frequent speaking and reading, with strong hearing and visual abilities required.
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, lift, push, pull, climb, and perform other physical activities as needed.

  • Ability to drive for approximately 2–4 hours as required by the assigned territory.
  • Ability to navigate varying temperatures and humidity and, when applicable, work around moving machinery.
