Job description

Job Title: Distribution Field Technician Job Description The Distribution Field Technician supports electric utility distribution projects by collecting accurate field data on power poles using tools such as KATAPULT and IKE. This role involves traveling to various project sites, capturing detailed photos and information, and collaborating closely with designers to ensure all required data is properly documented. The position offers significant opportunities for growth, with a path to advance into office-based roles after gaining field experience. Responsibilities
  • Travel to distribution sites across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle to collect field data on power poles.
  • Work alongside another Distribution Field Technician to utilize KATAPULT on site for data collection and documentation.
  • Take clear, comprehensive photographs of poles and related infrastructure to support design and engineering activities.
  • Communicate regularly with the designer to ensure that all photos and field data capture the correct and complete information required for each project.
  • Follow electric utility and power distribution standards while performing field inspections and data collection.
  • Operate within National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) guidelines when working around electric utility infrastructure.
  • Use general technology tools such as Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and other basic software to coordinate work, share data, and communicate with the team.
  • Travel extensively during the week, including frequent overnight stays, based on project requirements.
  • Work in outdoor conditions for extended periods, including in hot weather, while maintaining safety and productivity.
  • Participate in storm-related work as needed, supporting emergency response and restoration efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage and travel for reimbursement and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with project teams to support ongoing and upcoming projects, contributing to a culture of growth and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
  • Experience or strong interest in working within the electric utility or power distribution field.
  • Ability to travel frequently during the week across Georgia and neighboring states, including regular overnight stays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in the heat and other weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Ability to meet Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) standards and pass back ground and drug testing requirements.
  • General proficiency with basic technology tools, including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and similar applications.
  • Familiarity with power distribution systems and electric utility environments.
  • Awareness of National Electrical Safety Codes (NESC) and safe practices around electrical infrastructure.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive to and between field sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using KATAPULT for data collection is a strong plus.
  • Experience using IKE or similar field data collection tools is a plus.
  • Data collection experience in field environments is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of joint use practices and requirements is an advantage.
  • Experience with staking or working with power poles is a plus.
  • Understanding of electric utility design processes and standards is helpful.
  • Interest in long-term growth within the organization, including transitioning into office-based roles after gaining field experience.
Work Environment This role is primarily field-based and requires extensive weekly travel to distribution sites. Initial work will focus on areas around the Georgia-Alabama border, with additional projects in Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle. Technicians typically work a four-day workweek, completing 10-hour days, and travel every week with an average of three overnight stays, occasionally up to four, depending on project needs. The work is performed outdoors around power poles and electric utility infrastructure, often in hot weather and varying environmental conditions. The position includes mileage reimbursement for driving to poles and a per diem for food and lodging at the applicable Georgia rate while traveling. There is potential access to a company vehicle that may be taken home, depending on assignment. The team also supports storm work, contributing to emergency response and restoration efforts. The organization offers a strong pipeline of upcoming projects and emphasizes career growth, with opportunities to advance from field roles into office-based positions after gaining one to two years of field experience. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carrollton, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
