- Pay Rate: $60.00 $65.00 / Hour (USD)
- Shift / Schedule: Varies by project need; onsite presence required 2 3 times per week at multiple Bay Area locations
- Travel Requirements: Monthly to quarterly travel to client locations required; occasional overnight stays may be necessary to support client meetings and project milestones
- Equipment Provided: Laptop, docking station, and charger will be provided. Manager will approve mileage, per diem meals, and lodging if required to be expensed.

Job SummaryThis is a contract Instructional Designer role focused on designing and developing training for the utilities industry. The position operates under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer and partners with cross-functional teams to create instructor-led and on-the-job training programs, primarily for apprenticeships. The role requires local candidates in the Bay Area who are available to travel to various locations including San Francisco, Livermore, San Ramon, Oakland, and Daly City as project needs dictate.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop instructor-led and on-the-job training for apprenticeships in the utilities industry.
- Leverage and apply established instructional design methodologies to assess stakeholder needs, analyze complex content, and evaluate delivered training.
- Develop learning materials for technical content, including hands-on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other instructional media.
- Perform a detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system for which training will be developed.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.
- Define learning objectives and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs and to meet the constraints of the learning environment.
- Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.
- Write clear and effective instructional text, audio, or video scripts appropriate for the target audience.
- Participate in milestone meetings with subject matter experts, including task analysis, alpha, beta, and train the trainer.
- Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.
- Receive and incorporate feedback.
- Self-manage assigned tasks and deadlines to complete deliverables.
- Proactively communicate issues and risks.
Required Skills- 3 years of experience developing instructor-led training and on-the-job tasks for technical skills.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.
- Proven experience performing task analysis.
- Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Demonstrated ability to execute and deliver against multiple competing deadlines, as needed.
- Excellent communication, writing, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement.

- Experience with Technical Training (Instructor Led, not e-learning).

- Experience with creating job aids and technical writing skills.
Preferred Skills- Experience developing multi-year technical training programs for adult learners.
- Experience with QuestionMark, Author-It, and/or Storyline.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements- Must be located in the Bay Area (local candidates only).
- Must be available to travel to various locations including San Francisco, Livermore, San Ramon, Oakland, and Daly City as project needs dictate.
- Onsite presence required 2 3 times per week at various locations.
- Monthly to quarterly travel to client locations is required.
- Occasional overnight stays may be necessary to support client meetings and project milestones.
