Having schizophrenia can impact the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) because federal regulations require applicants to be medically qualified, which includes mental health assessments. Employers typically support drivers by offering well-maintained vehicles, established safety protocols, and resources like roadside assistance and rest stops to promote driver well-being. Many companies also provide flexible scheduling, regular safety training, and incentives for safe driving to encourage optimal job performance. Building strong communication with dispatch and other team members further helps drivers address issues quickly and stay connected while on the road. Overall, these measures are designed to ensure safety, satisfaction, and successful deliveries on overnight routes.
