Job description

The Director of Residence Life and Housing serves as a key member of the student life staff with an emphasis on Residence Life and Housing Responsibility. This is a twelve month position with options for live-in or live-off campus placement.

Responsibilities:

Departmental Administrative

Select, train, supervise and evaluate staff of departments managed, including the Office of Residence Life and Housing

Provide strategic planning and leadership for the implementation, delivery and evaluationof programs and services that are consistent with the mission and goals of the University.

Assess student needs and interests; utilize relevant data, scholarship, and studentdevelopment theories and models in planning and developing programs and activities for assigned areas.

Serve as a member of the Student Support Team

Train Administrator on Call and Back up Administrator on Call regarding emergency protocols and procedures

Serve as a member of the Administrator and/or Back up Administrator on Call rotation.

Residence Life/Housing

Manage and oversee all aspects of residence life programming, including living and learning (LLC) and other theme-based communities, residence hall organizations and honorary associations.

Manage assigned residence hall facility(s) supporting student Residence Assistant staff and communities within them.

Manage residence life programming budget and assist with residence hall inventory management.

Collaborate with facilities, ITS and departmental staff to address facilities and technology maintenance, repairs, housekeeping, renovations and upgrades.

In collaboration with public safety and department staff, oversee safety programs and coordinate emergency planning for residential facilities.

Assist with room assignments, placement and consolidation as required.

Collaborate with department staff to develop and manage move-in and move-out procedures each term.

Consult on and respond to student housing appeals as required.

Collaborate with Reservations and Event Services staff to oversee summer camp and conference housing.

Work with staff to formulate and implement residence life and student housing policies, procedures, programs, and related materials.

Maintain appropriate files for historical purposes; produce daily, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required.

Identify and participate in ongoing professional development, continuing education and training as required.

Serve as a back-up to other Residence Life and Housing staff in their absence.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Master's degree in counseling, student personnel, higher education administration or a comparable field preferred.

Five or more years of experience in residence life required.

Experience in budget management and supervision required.

Experience in conduct and crisis management/emergency response preferred.

Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development required.

Experience with StarRez Student Housing Management Software preferred.

Human Relations Skills:

Strong communication, management and administrative skills.

Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.

Energetic and enthusiastic personality with a student-centered philosophy and the ability to work well with students

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

High customer service orientation

Ability to work as a team member and to work with a diverse group of constituencies.

Other Skills:

Proven program development and strong written and organizational skills.

Must be able to spend evening and weekend hours as necessary to support student activities and develop strong student relationships. Availability to advise student organizations during overnight leadership development retreats.

Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the University mission.
