Summary
This position is located at the Outdoor Recreation Complex on Fort Carson.
This position is a FLEX position. FLEX positions can be worked anywhere between 0 - 40 hours per week. Hours are not guaranteed.

Duties
Help
  • Works under general supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as a Recreation Assistant, instructing groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs. Teaches children as well as adults.
  • Incumbent is responsible for group management. The safety of the participants must always be the number one priority.
  • Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with local area as the position requires providing information to customers.
  • Reports any problems to the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as soon as possible in order to maintain a high quality service to guests.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification.
  • If water rafting is part of the duties, satisfactory completion of required Raft Guide Training must be completed within three weeks of appointment.
  • Failure to successfully completed required training may result in separation.
  • The facility is typically closed on Sundays and Mondays; however, employees may be required to work on these days for overnight trips, training, programs, or special events.
  • Normal workhours are Tuesday-Friday 0900-1800 and Saturday 0800-1400. Workhours may be required on holidays to support programs, events, or off-site activities.
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts with short notice.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements:
  • Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
  • Applicants pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field, and in the process of completing an internship or fieldwork program will be considered highly qualified.
