With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.

RTX BBN Technologies is one of RTX’s premier research and development centers providing advanced systems and services for commercial, military and government customers worldwide. Our diverse research portfolio combines the best technologies to deliver innovative, custom solutions with real-world benefit.

At RTX BBN Technologies, we develop new science by applying radical cross-disciplinary techniques to prototype systems in order to prove concept viability.

This is especially evident in our Physical Systems and Sciences group, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where scientists and engineers anticipate the future in both very large and very small-scale scientific systems that often need to survive challenging operational environments.

We are seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to join our Physical Sciences and Systems group in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will leverage their prior experience with analog and digital circuit design to develop hardware solutions needed to analyze physical phenomena (e.g., acoustics, optics, vibration, electro-magnetics, etc.) along with testing and analysis of advanced sensors, circuits, or devices. Our world-class team works with a broad range of Government agencies to solve problems that are both technically challenging and have a real operational impact.

What You Will Do

  • Develop sophisticated detection, classification, localization, and tracking (DCLT) systems to be deployed against state-of-the-art threats in high-noise environments.

  • Design and develop custom payloads used for the guidance and control of autonomous vehicles.

  • Develop real-time control systems and architectures to affect the performance of physical systems.

  • Plan portions of large programs and coordinate their efforts across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Lead teams from conceptual development to production, including the entire design workflow: requirements – design – schematic capture – PCB layout – fabrication – assembly – debug – test.

  • Support new business development by participating in proposals and making presentations to prospective customers.

  • This position may require some amount of overnight travel.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience taking a conceptual design and developing a complete hardware design with verification via test and integration.

  • Prior hardware engineering background in both Digital and Analog Circuit Design.

  • Experience with circuit simulation and analysis using Spice, LT Spice and MATLAB.

  • Experience writing test procedures, conducting tests, and proficiency using electronic test and measurement equipment.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in analog sensor interface design utilizing ICP, CVLD, Acoustic and IR transducers.

  • Experience in Anti-aliasing and reconstruction filter design, A/D and D/A interfacing.

  • Experience in low power electronics design for use in battery applications.

  • Experience with schematic capture and board layout using tools such as Altium, ORCAD Capture and Cadence Allegro.

  • Experience in design using Altera and Xilinx FPGA/CPLD.

  • Experience in designing RF circuitry.

  • Product certification exposure based on military and commercial standards; UL/FCC, MIL-STD-810, 461, 704.

  • Ability to perform light assembly and rework of prototype hardware to support test and evaluation.

  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Current DoD Security clearance.
