PLEASE NOTE THIS POSITION IS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON OF 2026-27.  WE WILL NOT START THE INTERVIEWING PROCESS UNTIL MID-AUGUST WITH AN ANTICIPATED START DATE OF MID-SEPTEMBER.

What our Part-Time hiring process is like:

While every position is different, our part-time hiring process is typically a two-step process, sometimes more depending on the nature of the role.  After you apply, your resume will be reviewed by our hiring manager for that particular role.

After interviews have been conducted, candidates whom the hiring manager selected will be contacted by our Talent Acquisition team.  Candidates who are not selected to move forward will be contacted via email.  We would love to call 100% of the candidates, however we typically interview well over 250 candidates during this part-time hiring week, and we want to give every candidate the decision as soon as possible.

 

A quick summary about the Role:

The Part-Time (A2) Audio Assistant position within the Broadcast Technology and Services (BTS) is primarily responsible for working with the A1/Lead Audio Engineer and/or Seasonal Full Time Audio Engineer to pre-plan, setup, operate, and strike sound equipment required to support various events at the KIA Center.

The primary support is for Orlando Magic NBA basketball games. However other events may include support for Orlando Solar Bears hockey, Osceola Magic, Orlando Predators arena football games, Orlando Magic related internal events, and other various Orlando Venues hospitality/corporate events.

Event locations include but not limited to Kia Center, as other game/events are held at Silver Spur Arena (Osceola Heritage Park), Advent Health Training Center, Magic Carpet Aviation, CNL Magic offices and other off-site Magic events.

The A2 Audio Assistant is required to follow all protocols and procedures for properly executing his/her role related to a scheduled event.

 What the position will be responsible for:
  • Manage in-arena wireless microphones for in-game emcee/hosts, vocalists/performers, and other performers during Orlando Magic game or event.
  • Manage in-ear monitor systems for emcee/hosts and performers.
  • Manage other audio inputs, including microphones, instruments, and band inputs.
  • Manage soundchecks with performers and stage managers.
  • Ensure microphones are prepped and assigned to performers/presenters at the appropriate time.
  • Work with Lead Audio Engineer A1 and or SFT Audio Engineer to quickly troubleshoot problems that may arise.
  • Able to troubleshoot various types of audio setups. perform minor repairs and modifications to audio equipment during show/event.
  • At times will work and coordinate with other BTS Full Time staff, including AV Systems supervisor, EIC, and/or additional part-time Event AV Technicians in support of games/events.
  • Assist to ensure the audio required for the event(s) scheduled is set and struck properly.
  • Able to operate small to large audio consoles (from 4 to 48 channels) and associated outboard gear. 
  • Assemble and operate small and large portable audio systems for corporate event setups throughout venue and may include off-site Magic related events.
  • Always maintain a safe and organized work environment. 
  • Manage and maintain source audio control devices and custom AV control systems. 
  • Build equipment racks and dress all cabling in a professional manner. 
  • Ability to work around heights over 100 FT. 
  • Reporting any equipment failure. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 
What is required for the role:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • 2 Year College Degree or equivalent live audio work experience
  • Exhibit excellent knowledge of live audio principles, microphones and sound re-enforcement required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional audio experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of audio and video signal flow as which would include the Broadcast Infrastructure at Kia Center preferred.
  • Experience with analog and digital consoles, experience with Yamaha digital boards is a plus. 
  • Basic knowledge of electricity as it pertains to event setups and all ancillary equipment
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products and other related computer skills required
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on business writing skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.
  • Strong team synergy skills and ability to work collaboratively with others whom you have no direct authority over.
  • Excellent ability to establish rapport with others and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
