Role Overview 

The Outside Sales Representative builds profitable, long-term customer partnerships through a consultative sales approach. This role is responsible for managing and growing a defined territory, uncovering customer needs, and delivering tailored solutions by leveraging Tessman Company products, services, and industry expertise. 


We are looking for 3 motivated people to sell to:

Golf Courses & Sports Turf

Lawn Care Operators & Landscapers

Greenhouses and Nurseries.


This role is fundamental in growing a new territory. You will be a part of a new team in Milwaukee as we expand the Tessman Company into the area. This is a base + uncapped commission role with room to grow! 

 
 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Build and sustain long-term, mutually beneficial customer relationships within an assigned territory 
  • Meet or exceed sales forecasts and profitability goals through effective territory and account management 
  • Utilize a consultative selling approach to uncover customer needs and identify growth opportunities 
  • Develop and execute territory and account plans aligned with customer segmentation and profitability strategies 
  • Conduct effective, solution-focused sales calls and presentations tailored to customer needs 
  • Serve as a trusted resource to customers by sharing industry insights, product knowledge, regulations, and market trends 
  • Collaborate with internal teams, supplier partners, and specialists to deliver comprehensive customer solutions 
  • Use our Sage ERP and its custom reporting to manage accounts, forecasts and quotes
  • Monitor competitive activity and market trends, sharing insights to inform strategy 
  • Actively pursue new business through focused prospecting and lead follow-up

Requirements

  • 5 + years of experience in outside sales, account management, or consultative selling 
  • 3 + years of experience in turf, golf course, landscape or horticulture experience required 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills 
  • Ability to manage a territory effectively, including prioritization and time management 
  • Experience developing customer solutions using product knowledge, financial analysis, and negotiation skills 
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office) 
  • Understanding of pricing, profitability, and customer segmentation strategies 
  • Ability to resolve customer issues efficiently while maintaining strong relationships 
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent demonstrated experience 
  • Willingness to travel within assigned territory and visit customer sites, including environments with potentially hazardous substances
