Outside Account Manager information

How does an outside account manager typically balance time between client visits and administrative tasks?

Outside Account Managers often split their workweek between on-site client meetings and in-office administrative duties. Managing this balance requires strong organizational skills, as you'll need to schedule travel efficiently while keeping up with reporting, proposal preparation, and follow-ups. Most companies provide CRM tools and support staff to help streamline administrative work, allowing you to focus more on building client relationships and meeting sales goals. Flexibility and proactive communication are key to staying on top of both aspects of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an outside account manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Outside Account Manager, you need strong sales acumen, account management experience, and often a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, sales automation tools, and data analysis platforms is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal communication, negotiation, and self-motivation distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are critical for building client relationships, meeting sales targets, and driving business growth in a competitive environment.

Job description

Inside Sales Representative (Construction Services)

Location: [Insert Location / Office-Based or Hybrid]

Job Type: Full-time (Base + Uncapped Commission)

Experience Level: Entry to Mid-Level Sales

About the Role

We are a fast-growing construction company that delivers real, high-quality results, and we need a high-volume, high-energy Inside Sales Representative to fuel our pipeline. We have the crews and the capability; we need you to secure the opportunities.

In this role, you will be the engine of our sales department. You won't be driving around to job sites or getting mud on your boots—instead, you’ll be commanding the phones, crushing emails, and leveraging our CRM to connect with general contractors, developers, property managers, and owners. If you are a master of persuasion, love the fast-paced thrill of the chase, and want a role where your financial success is dictated entirely by your work ethic, this is it.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Own the Pipeline: Cold-call, email, and text prospective B2B clients to uncover new project opportunities. You are responsible for turning cold data into warm leads.
  • Qualify Inbound Leads: React instantly to incoming web inquiries, project leads, and RFP (Request for Proposal) invites. Screen them to ensure they fit our project scope.
  • Coordinate with Estimating: Gather project details, blueprints, or specifications from clients and hand them off seamlessly to our estimating and project management teams.
  • Drive Deals to Close: Track submitted bids and proposals. Stay top-of-mind with clients, handle objections over the phone, and work collaboratively with clients to finalize agreements efficiently.
  • CRM Mastery: Keep our CRM immaculately updated. Track every call, note, and deal stage so our team can move fast and never miss an opportunity.

Who You Are (Qualifications & Skills)

We are looking for someone with a thick skin, a sharp mind, and a relentless drive to win:

  • Inside Sales/Inside Phone Experience: A minimum of [X] years in inside sales, telemarketing, or a high-volume outbound calling environment. You know how to command attention within the first 5 seconds of a cold call.
  • The Construction Advantage (A Big Plus, Not a Dealbreaker): If you already know construction terminology, can interpret basic bid requests, or have experience selling in the trades—you’ll have a major head start. If not, you must be a quick study who can learn our services inside and out.
  • Fearless Communicator: You possess elite phone presence and writing skills. You are articulate, confident, and can talk shop with field guys just as easily as you negotiate with corporate buyers.
  • Tech-Savvy Hunter: You are highly proficient with CRMs (like Salesforce, HubSpot, or Procore), LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and online construction bidding networks.
  • High Resilience: You view "no" as just a detour on the way to a "yes." You thrive in a high-activity environment where tracking metrics matters.

What’s In It For You?

  • Competitive Base Salary + Uncapped Commission: High-volume output equals high-volume payouts. There is no ceiling on what you can earn.
  • Structure & Support: You supply the hustle; we supply the data, tools, and technical estimation support to help you close.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) Plan with company match.
  • Career Growth: This position is a gateway. Prove yourself here, and you can fast-track into senior sales management or outside account leadership.
