UCSF's Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) is housed in the Center for Science, Education and Outreach (CSEO), which is a unit within the Office of Opportunity and Outreach. Since 1999, CSEO has provided programs and services to K-20 communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area that lead to student academic success, increased college-going rates, and early exploration of careers in health and STEM.
Job Summary:
The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) Coordinator assists in designing, coordinating, and implementing EAOP services at their assigned school site. They work with students, parents, school personnel, and community stakeholders to promote academic success and achievement in schools with limited college-going histories.
The EAOP Program Coordinator plans, develops, and implements academic preparation services for 9th-12th-grade students. As a seasoned professional in K-14 academic preparation, the EAOP Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of EAOP services at their assigned school sites. Additionally, the EAOP Program Coordinator develops and maintains program visibility in schools and develops collaborative relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions, community entities, and other college-going programs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Comprehensive College Advising & Student Support: Guide K-14 students through college admissions, financial aid, and academic planning. Lead cohort recruitment, deliver college-going workshops, and collaborate with families to support informed decision-making.
- Summer Enrichment Leadership & Program Oversight: Plan and execute summer academic programs that expose students to college life and career pathways. Recruit participants and supervise summer staff.
- Data Management & Program Impact Assessment: Maintain accurate student records, track engagement, and analyze school data to inform program improvements.
- Strategic Partnerships & School Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with school leaders, counselors, teachers, and college-access organizations. Participate in committees and strategic planning to foster a college-going culture.
- Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Stay updated on trends in college access and academic preparation, particularly for first-generation and low-income students. Leverage professional development to enhance program effectiveness.
- Additional Contributions & Special Projects: Support other initiatives and responsibilities as needed to advance program goals.
This position requires 100% on-site at two high schools in San Francisco and San Mateo counties, with occasional work at UCSF's Mission Center. Applicants must be available for occasional work outside of normal business hours, including some evenings and weekends
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and 3+ years of relevant experience and/or training
3 + years of professional experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding post-secondary opportunities and careers
Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies
Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts
Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements
Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status
Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers
Demonstrate organizational and program coordination skills, including the ability to set priorities and work on several projects simultaneously
Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team

- Delivers individual and group advising services and maintains relationships with a group of K-14 students at the assigned school site--assists program participants in navigating the college admission process and completing their college and financial aid applications.
- Develops student academic plans to ensure competitive postsecondary admission eligibility-reviews academic transcripts of program participants and advises program participants on college admission policies.
- Designs and implements grade-appropriate college-going workshops, curricula, materials, and activities.
- Implements and facilitates program recruitment-organizes student recruitment events that will yield the required number of EAOP participants in alignment with statewide standards.
- Plans college visits and other college-going activities.
- Develops and maintains relationships with parents/families to support student academic success and access to higher education--provides guidance and resources to aid students and their families in making the best decision concerning the students' postsecondary educational and career options.
SUMMER ENRICHMENT PLANNING
- Plans and leads summer academic enrichment programs that expose students to a college setting and support exploration of different careers and fields of study.
- Leads participant recruitment and selection.
- Trains and may supervise and evaluate the job performance of part-time, student, and summer staff.
RECORDKEEPING & REPORTING
- Produces program reports, collects student data, maintains accurate records, and documents participant engagement and academic progress.
- Reviews data about their assigned school better to understand the college-going needs of EAOP participants and the school.
COALITION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
- Develops collaborative relationships with other college-going programs and K-14 higher education personnel.
- Develops and maintains relationships with school principals, counselors, and teachers.
- Serves on department, organization, and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies.
- Participates in strategic and program planning to improve the school's college-going culture.
COLLEGE KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT & PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
