Job description

Production Manager
Outland Technology - Slidell, LA (On-site)
Full-time | $85,000-$100,000/year
About the role
Outland Technology builds diving and inspection-class ROVs used by commercial, defense, and research customers around the world-all designed and manufactured right here in Slidell, just outside New Orleans. We're a small, tight-knit team, which means the person in this seat owns the production floor end to end: you'll set the pace, work directly alongside our electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, and see your improvements show up in products shipping worldwide. If you like having real ownership and being on the floor solving problems rather than buried in meetings, this is that job.
What you'll do
Production & Operations
  • Oversee daily production across assembly, machining coordination, and testing
  • Plan and schedule production to meet delivery timelines
  • Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and improve efficiency
  • Ensure proper use of materials, tools, and equipment

Team Leadership
  • Manage and support production staff (assembly, technicians)
  • Assist with hiring, training, and performance management
  • Foster accountability, organization, and a strong work culture

Quality Control
  • Ensure products meet company and customer quality standards
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes
  • Work closely with engineering on product issues and improvements

Process Improvement
  • Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Improve production systems, documentation, and workflows
  • Drive continuous improvement in efficiency and cost control

Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Partner with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams
  • Coordinate with purchasing, inventory, and shipping
  • Communicate production status to leadership

What you bring
Required
  • 7+ years in manufacturing or production leadership
  • Experience managing small teams (3-10 people)
  • Ability to read technical drawings and collaborate with engineers
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • A hands-on mindset-comfortable on the floor, not just behind a desk

Preferred
  • Background in electronics, mechanical assembly, or marine/industrial equipment
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or process improvement methods
  • Experience with ERP/inventory systems (QuickBooks Manufacturing a plus)
  • Machining or technical assembly experience

Schedule & location
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, on-site in Slidell, LA 70458. Reliable commute required, or planning to relocate before your start date.
Pay & benefits
  • Competitive salary: $85,000-$100,000
  • SEP retirement plan
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Performance bonus, based on individual performance and company profitability
