What is an outdoor medical professional?

An outdoor medical professional is a healthcare provider trained to deliver medical care in outdoor, remote, or wilderness environments. They are skilled in managing injuries, illnesses, and emergencies where traditional medical facilities and equipment may not be available. These professionals often work in settings such as adventure expeditions, outdoor education programs, search and rescue teams, or disaster response. Their training typically includes wilderness medicine, first aid, and survival skills to ensure the safety and health of individuals in challenging environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an outdoor medical professional?

To thrive as an Outdoor Medical professional, you need strong emergency medical skills, wilderness medicine training, and certifications such as Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or EMT. Familiarity with portable medical equipment, GPS navigation tools, and communication devices is essential. Critical thinking, resilience, and effective teamwork are vital soft skills for managing unpredictable situations in remote environments. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensuring timely and effective medical care where resources are limited and conditions are challenging.

What are some common challenges faced by outdoor medical professionals when providing care in remote environments?

Outdoor Medical professionals often encounter unique challenges such as limited access to medical equipment, unpredictable weather conditions, and the need to make rapid decisions with minimal resources. They must be adaptable, resourceful, and able to prioritize patient care in situations where evacuation is difficult or delayed. Teamwork and clear communication are essential, as these roles frequently involve collaborating with guides, rescue teams, or outdoor leaders to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

What is the difference between Outdoor Medical vs Wilderness Medical Technician?

Outdoor Medical professionals and Wilderness Medical Technicians both work in outdoor environments and require similar certifications like First Aid, CPR, and Wilderness First Responder. However, Wilderness Medical Technicians typically have more specialized training for remote wilderness rescue and medical care, often working directly in wilderness rescue teams or expedition settings. Outdoor Medical roles may focus more broadly on providing first aid and basic medical support during outdoor activities. Both roles are essential for outdoor safety but differ in scope and specialization.

Job description

Outdoor Kitchen Drafter

Location: Orlando, FL

Company: Complete Outdoor Living – Family-Owned Business

About Us

Complete Outdoor Living is a family-owned company specializing in the design, fabrication, and installation of premium custom outdoor kitchens throughout Central Florida. Every project is custom-built to fit our clients' homes, lifestyles, and entertaining needs using welded aluminum framing, premium materials, and industry-leading appliances.

As our company continues to grow, we're looking for a detail-oriented Drafter to help transform approved designs into accurate, production-ready documentation that drives a smooth and efficient manufacturing process.

Position Summary

The Drafter plays a critical role in bridging sales, design, and production. Working from approved customer designs, this position develops detailed SolidWorks models, shop drawings, Bills of Materials, and production documentation that ensure every outdoor kitchen is built accurately, efficiently, and to Complete Outdoor Living's quality standards.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, understands how products are built, and takes pride in producing precise technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Convert approved sales designs into detailed, production-ready SolidWorks shop drawings.
  • Engineer custom outdoor kitchen layouts while ensuring manufacturability, structural integrity, and production efficiency.
  • Develop accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), purchase requisitions, and material cut lists for production.
  • Create customer approval drawings showing overall dimensions, finishes, and project specifications.
  • Determine appropriate framing, countertop, cladding, and hardware specifications based on approved project designs.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Project Management, and Production to ensure projects move efficiently from design through fabrication.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company construction standards before production begins.
  • Identify potential manufacturing or installation issues early and recommend practical engineering solutions.
  • Maintain organized project files and engineering documentation.
  • Participate in production meetings, project reviews, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Support additional engineering and technical responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks Parts and Assemblies is required. This position relies on SolidWorks for all drafting and production documentation.
  • 1–5 years of drafting experience in construction, carpentry, cabinetry, millwork, fabrication, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods and an understanding of how products are manufactured and assembled.
  • Ability to interpret renderings, layouts, and design concepts and translate them into accurate production drawings.
  • Experience creating detailed shop drawings, Bills of Materials, and fabrication documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus but not required.
  • Experience in residential construction or custom manufacturing is preferred.
  • Experience with outdoor kitchens is beneficial but not required. We'll teach you the product side of the business.
  • Ability to work in both an office environment and a production facility.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Opportunities for professional growth within a successful family-owned company.
  • A collaborative team environment where engineering, craftsmanship, and quality are highly valued.
  • Benefits package including medical, dental, vision, PTO, and 401(k) with company matching.
  • The opportunity to work on unique, custom-built outdoor living projects from concept through production.
