Job description

Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to four National Historic Landmarks and presents public tours, school programs, and seasonal festivals for audiences that include suburban families seeking weekend leisure activities; K-12 teachers meeting curricular objectives and their students; and a diverse array of heritage tourists.  HHV has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site interpretation and award-winning digital content, particularly in the content areas of Northern slavery, regional women’s history, and storytelling.
 

HHV is seeking an experienced part-time AV Specialist for our event season. Should have a minimum of three years’ experience in the technological and logistical implementation of audio-visual equipment associated with one or more assigned popular programs. The AV Specialist will report to the Associate Director of Event Production.

Primary Responsibility: 

To participate in the technological and logistical implementation of audio-visual equipment associated with one or more assigned popular programs. 

Principal Duties: 

  • Work with Associate Director, Event Production to implement audio, video and lighting technology into HHV’s events. 
  • Operate AV equipment during performances and events. 
  • Train substitute operators in the use of relevant equipment to ensure redundancy for performances. 
  • Work with other members of the Events Team in the installation and breakdown of equipment. 
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with Performers and Event Staff. 
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in real-time and resolve or escalate issues to the needed managers in a timely manner.  
  • Travel to other HHV Sites as required. 
  • Inspect, maintain, test, inventory and organize HHV owned Lighting and Sound equipment as required. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

  • Three to five years related experience 
  • Working knowledge of Live Event audio visuals equipment such as but not limited to Sound and Lighting consoles, projectors, cameras, speakers, modular staging platforms 
  • Ability to read and follow a signal flow and set up diagrams or drawing 
  • Knowledge of HHV historic sites and events a plus 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Flexibility; ability to handle pressure gracefully 
  • Organization skills and ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently 

Work Conditions: 

  • Outdoor work, exposure to all weather conditions 
  • Daily and heavy physical labor 
  • Weekends, holidays and evenings in support of event schedule 

Physical Requirements 

  • Must be able to walk or stand on level, inclined and unpaved surfaces for extended periods 
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 40 lbs. 
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, lift in any direction for sustained periods of time 
  • Must be able to grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders 
  • Must be able to sustain movement/motion of the wrists, hands and/or fingers 
  • Must be able to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly fingertips 
  • Must be able to routinely climb/descend stairs  
  • Must be able to work off a Ladder/scaffold 
  • Must be able to read and interpret written material and instructions 
  • Must be able to communicate (i.e. clearly express and exchange ideas) by voice and detect sound by ear (e.g. receive detail information and make fine discriminations in sound) 
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depths 
  • Must be able to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.   

Pay rate = $30/hr
