To thrive in OTC Derivatives, you need strong quantitative and analytical skills, a solid understanding of financial markets, and a relevant degree such as finance, economics, or mathematics. Proficiency in risk management systems, Excel, Bloomberg, and sometimes programming languages (like Python or VBA), as well as familiarity with industry regulations and possibly certifications such as CFA or FRM, is highly beneficial. What is an OTC Derivatives?

An OTC Derivatives job involves trading, pricing, risk management, and settlement of over-the-counter (OTC) derivative contracts, such as swaps, forwards, and options, which are privately negotiated rather than traded on an exchange. Professionals in this role work for investment banks, asset managers, or hedge funds, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing counterparty risk, and optimizing trade execution. Responsibilities may include trade lifecycle management, valuation, collateral management, and reporting. Strong quantitative skills, financial market knowledge, and familiarity with regulatory requirements are essential for success in this role.

What does an OTC Derivatives do?

OTC Derivatives professionals are responsible for pricing, executing, and managing over-the-counter derivative transactions, often collaborating closely with clients, traders, and risk managers. Daily tasks include trade booking, monitoring risk exposures, assessing market movements, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You may also need to troubleshoot operational issues, reconcile trades, and coordinate with internal teams such as settlements and legal. This multifaceted role requires balancing analytical tasks with strong communication and problem-solving abilities in a fast-moving financial environment.
