Job description

Position description
The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, in collaboration with the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, invites applications for a full-time tenure-equivalent track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level. The successful applicant will be proposed for appointment to the Lori Altshuler Endowed Chair for Mood Disorders. The endowed chair supports academic, clinical, and research leadership in advancing the understanding and treatment of mood disorders, with a particular emphasis on bipolar disorder and related conditions, consistent with the purpose of the fund.
We seek a mid-career physician-scientist with an established or internationally recognized research program in mood disorders and clinical care. The successful candidate will demonstrate a sustained record of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications with evidence of senior or corresponding authorship in recognized journals, a track record of extramural funding, such as serving as Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, or Multiple Principal Investigator on federally funded or equivalent peer-reviewed grants. The candidate should also demonstrate experience contributing to collaborative, interdisciplinary research initiatives, particularly those that advance translational approaches bridging clinical care and neuroscience.
The successful candidate must hold an MD or equivalent medical degree, have completed an ACGME-accredited (or equivalent) residency in Psychiatry, and be board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry. The candidate must be eligible for or hold a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California. Clinical qualifications must include demonstrated experience in the management of mood disorders, evident in application materials, within an academic, hospital-based, or specialty care setting. Evidence of clinical teaching and supervision of trainees in multidisciplinary environments is expected.
Clinical responsibilities will include providing direct patient care in mood disorders and participating in multidisciplinary teams. Teaching responsibilities will include the supervision and mentorship of psychiatry residents, fellows, medical students, and graduate students, as well as mentoring early-career clinicians and scientists. The candidate will also contribute to academic service through participation in departmental, school, and professional activities.
The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences provide a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with strong infrastructure supporting clinical research, neuroscience, and behavioral health innovation.
Faculty appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 - Summary . The salary range for this position is $250,000-$300,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan [ Apm 670 ], which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
