Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Early Learning Center
Position Summary
V-Tech Solutions, Inc. is seeking a District of Columbia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support Early Learning Center health, safety, and well-being of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (ages 6 weeks-5 years) in an inclusive early childhood education environment. Working under the supervision of the ELC Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN provides direct care, medication administration, health documentation, and family/staff support to ensure compliance with DC Department of Health (DOH), Office of State Superintendent Education (OSSE), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and Early Intervention requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Health Screenings & Compliance Support
• Assist the RN in conducting required screenings (vision, hearing, growth).
• Track immunizations, TB tests, lead levels, and health/dental certificates.
• Support compliance reporting aligned with DC regulatory standards.
Direct Nursing Care
• Provide routine nursing care within LPN scope under RN supervision.
• Monitor children with chronic conditions and implement physician-ordered treatments.
• Support daily health checks, symptom monitoring, and communicable disease protocols.
Medication Administration
• Administer medications safely and accurately per ELC and DC guidelines.
• Maintain medication logs, MARs, and secure storage of medications/equipment.
• Transcribe and verify physician orders; flag discrepancies for RN review.
• Support Medical Action Plan implementation for allergies, asthma, seizures.
Documentation & Data Management
• Maintain accurate health records, medication logs, and incident reports.
• Update digital and paper health files in accordance with DC DOH, OSSE, CDC, and CACFP requirements.
• Ensure timely documentation of screenings, treatments, and parent communications.
Family & Staff Support
• Provide basic health education to families on child-specific needs.
• Assist the RN in training staff on medication procedures and health protocols.
• Prepare and distribute communicable disease notices and health updates.
Care Coordination
• Support referrals to community resources (WIC, specialists, vision/hearing services).
• Coordinate with teachers, early intervention specialists, and administrators to ensure safe participation in classroom activities.
Qualifications
Active LPN license in the District of Columbia.
CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
Experience in pediatric, early childhood, or developmental disability settings preferred.
Ability to follow RN direction and operate within LPN scope of practice.
Strong documentation, communication, and family-engagement skills.
COVID-19 vaccination required prior to start.
Schedule & Location
Location: Southeast, Washington, DC.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM (one late day 9:00 AM-5:00 PM).
Compensation
Approximately $25-29/hour dependent upon experience
