Job description

OSP Project Engineer

Position Overview

The OSP Project Engineer is an opportunity for an engineering-minded individual to build or further a career in the telecommunications and fiber optic industry. This role combines elements of OSP engineering, project coordination, and construction support.

The successful candidate will assist with planning, designing, and implementing telecommunications infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on fiber optic networks. This position provides the opportunity to develop experience in fiber optic design, project management, construction, permitting, estimating, and customer coordination.

We are looking for someone who is motivated to learn, organized, detail-oriented, and interested in developing a career in fiber optic engineering. Candidates with prior OSP, telecommunications, utility, engineering, construction, or project management experience are encouraged to apply, but extensive industry experience is not required.

You will work closely with field engineers, design teams, construction project managers, customers, and other stakeholders. As your knowledge and experience develop, you will be given increased responsibility for managing projects, coordinating resources, supporting customers, and assisting with business development and estimating activities.

The OSP Project Engineer reports to the Lead Project Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

ยท Assist with the design and development of OSP network infrastructure, including fiber optic cable routes, conduit pathways, and related equipment.

ยท Assist with preparing and reviewing engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

ยท Support project scheduling, resource coordination, and project tracking.

ยท Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, customers, and other stakeholders to support successful project execution.

ยท Participate in site surveys and field assessments to gather project information and evaluate feasibility.

ยท Learn and apply applicable local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.

ยท Assist with identifying project risks and developing solutions to potential challenges.

ยท Monitor construction activities and provide technical and project support to field personnel.

ยท Assist with troubleshooting and resolving engineering or construction-related issues.

ยท Prepare and maintain project documentation, including design files, progress reports, and as-built drawings.

Required Qualifications

ยท Ability to learn new software, engineering processes, and industry standards.

ยท Ability to work effectively with field personnel, customers, contractors, and internal teams.

ยท Ability to travel to project sites as needed.

ยท Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications

ยท Previous experience in OSP engineering, telecommunications, utility construction, civil engineering, project management, & project financial analysis.

ยท Experience with fiber optic network design or construction.

ยท Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or other engineering/design software.

ยท Knowledge of permitting processes and right-of-way requirements.

ยท Familiarity with fiber optic network architecture and construction practices.

ยท Experience reading engineering plans or construction drawings.

ยท Knowledge of industry standards such as ANSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC.
