What are OSP Make Ready jobs?

OSP Make Ready jobs involve preparing existing utility infrastructure, such as telephone poles or conduits, for the installation of new telecommunications equipment. This process typically includes tasks like rearranging or moving existing wires, cables, and hardware to ensure there is space and compliance with safety regulations for the new installations. OSP (Outside Plant) Make Ready work is essential in fiber optic network deployments and other broadband projects. These jobs require coordination with utility companies and strict adherence to industry standards to maintain service integrity and public safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OSP Make Ready, and why are they important?

To thrive as an OSP Make Ready, you need a solid understanding of outside plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure, construction practices, and relevant safety regulations, often supported by a high school diploma or technical training. Familiarity with field surveying tools, GIS systems, utility pole loading analysis software, and industry certifications like OSHA 10 are typically required.
