Job description

  • POSITION SUMMARY
    • Responsible for performing a variety of clerical, environmental and organizational duties in support of designated providers and staff during clinic hours.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
    • Clinic Coverage:
      • Facilitates patient flow in the clinic by assuring patient check in processes are complete, calling for patients in the main waiting room and directing them accordingly within the clinic.
      • Greets and prepares patients for provider or imaging exams, providing appropriate gown, shorts, etc.
      • Checks patients out and schedules imaging or follow up appointments as requested (i.e. return to work/school/sport, physical therapy orders, etc.).
      • Provides patients with documentation pertaining to the visit and ensures that same documentation is appropriately captured for the patient record.
      • Maintains exam room supply stock and keeps exam rooms clean and disinfected between patients as needed. Informs supervisor when supplies need to be reordered for supply room.
      • Performs tasks including copying, faxing, scanning and filing documents to ensure a complete and accurate patient record.
      • Assists by preparing electronic images or documents for providers based on individual preferences to facilitate appointments.
      • Following the Orthopedic One Contagious Disease Symptom and Screening P&P, provides screening of Orthopedic One patients, visitors, and/or associates as assigned. These tasks may include, but are not limited to, completing symptom screening form, taking vitals such as temperature checks, dispensing recommended personal protective equipment, facilitating communication and coordination of care with provider input, and associated cleaning and disinfecting equipment and work spaces.
      • Updates patient information in the EMR.
      • Communicates with patient and the patient's family and staff to keep them informed of delays in the clinic schedule.
      • Prepares and sterilizes medical instruments. Cleans and disinfects medical equipment.
      • Provides cross coverage as assigned.
      • Confirms patient insurance coverage as needed.
      • Performs other duties in support of providers, staff, and leadership.
    • Clinical Intake:
      • Obtain and document patient vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure) as required.
      • Review and document allergy, medication, and other social history as assigned.
      • Based on intake information, may provide and document the distribution of patient educational material (such as smoking cessation).
      • Monitors patient flow to ensure that no patient is neglected or delayed unreasonably.
      • Responds to patient concerns or questions in helpful and objective manner, involving manager as appropriate
      • Maintains clinic and waiting area by tidying the space (pick up trash, reading material, etc.) during the workday and communicating with supervisor if further attention is needed.
    • Patient Care:
      • May perform patient care duties (remove wound dressing, sutures, or staples) as trained and directed by providers.
      • Specimen collection, preparation, and documentation according to proper procedures including venipuncture.
  • TEAMWORK
    • Teamwork:
      • Willingly provides coverage, volunteers assistance, and maintains workflows within department as needed without direct instruction/supervision.
      • Works cooperatively and refrains from participating in negative conversations.
      • Shares knowledge and insights with co-workers in a constructive manner.
      • Works to solve problems and address conflicts with appropriate person directly before involving leadership or uninvolved peers.
      • Is considerate of others in the work environment with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and phone, noise level in the department, etc.
  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
    • Policies and Procedures
      • Knows and complies with policies and procedures as enumerated in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook and policies and procedures documents.
      • Provides assistance and support to leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary.
      • Actively participates in training, and conducting day to day work activity by adhering to all policies and procedures as enumerated in compliance and risk management programs.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education, Experience, Certification and Licensure Requirements:
      • High School Diploma or equivalent required. While certification as a Medical Assistant is desired, one year previous experience in a medical assistant role or completion of a medical assistant program required. Customer service experience required. Computer skills, including keyboarding, electronic scheduling, data entry of patient information and use of email required. Use of various office technology solutions including fax, scanning, printing required. Must maintain CPR/AED certification.
