Job description

AMETEK's Advanced Measurement Technology (AMT) business unit, within the Materials Analysis Division of AMETEK's Electronic Instruments Group, is seeking a hands-on Cost Accountant. This role supports operational and accounting activities, requiring strong organization, communication skills, and an understanding of manufacturing accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
Costing Activities
  • Ensure accurate product costing, including review of BOMs, overhead rates, and related components
  • Provide cost analysis to support pricing reviews
  • Perform make vs. buy analysis
  • Lead the annual standard cost review process
  • Coordinate the annual physical inventory in Oak Ridge and Athens sites and perform monthly cycle count spot checks
  • Create and monitor accounting for special projects
  • Support Operations by developing and maintaining dashboards, metrics, and related reporting
  • Plan, coordinate, and assist with reconciliation of cycle counts and physical inventories
  • Maintain documentation of procedures performed
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements and support implementation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

General Ledger & Financial Activities
  • Assist with month-end close activities and preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of internal financial controls and procedures
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Ensure adherence to corporate and divisional policies and procedures
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses and communicate findings cross-functionally
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with standard cost build-up through BOMs and routings

Technical Knowledge
  • Exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements
  • Experience with Oracle ERP systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
