Job description

Conestoga Energy Partners is seeking a Grain Originator to build strong relationships with local producers and secure grain supply to support plant operations and merchandising strategies. This role plays an important part in maintaining a reliable and cost-effective grain supply while helping producers navigate grain markets and marketing opportunities.
The Grain Originator works closely with producers, merchandising, logistics, and risk management teams to manage grain contracts, coordinate deliveries, and monitor market conditions. This is a highly relationship-driven position suited for someone with an agricultural background and strong knowledge of grain markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local grain producers
  • Communicate daily with producers regarding grain markets, futures, basis, and industry trends
  • Originate and procure grain (corn, milo, and other commodities) for delivery throughout the year
  • Assist producers with grain marketing strategies and pricing opportunities
  • Execute and manage grain contracts, ensuring accurate documentation and pricing
  • Coordinate delivery schedules and transportation logistics with producers and internal teams
  • Monitor grain inventory levels and support efficient inbound grain flow
  • Collaborate with merchandising, accounting, logistics, and risk management teams
  • Track origination activity, producer commitments, and delivery performance
  • Monitor market conditions, basis trends, and competitor activity to support procurement strategies
  • Support grain certification programs, sustainability initiatives, and compliance requirements

This role operates with a high level of independence while maintaining strong coordination with the Grain Merchandising leadership team.
Qualifications
Required
  • Agricultural background or experience in grain handling, merchandising, or related field
  • Working knowledge of grain markets, including futures and basis
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business, Agronomy, or related field
  • Experience in grain origination, merchandising, or commodity trading
  • Familiarity with grain contracting and risk management practices
