Job description

Redwood Credit Union is seeking a visionary Vice President of Training & Development to lead our Training team, driving organizational development and learning strategies aligned with RCU’s mission and vision. This role will help foster a high-performance culture that empowers employees, supports growth, and delivers an exceptional team member experience.

The VP will partner closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure our workforce is engaged, developed, and aligned with organizational goals, while leading the adoption of modern and emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence (AI)—to enhance learning, improve efficiency, and strengthen organizational capability.

 
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy:
o Lead the development and execution of employee training and leadership development, that drive high performance and a culture of continuous learning, with an emphasis on incorporating AI-supported practices, tools, and technologies.
o Advise the Leadership Team on the impact of new programs, strategies, and regulatory actions, ensuring alignment with RCU’s mission to attract, motivate, and retain top talent, including guidance on responsible and ethical integration of AI-enabled solutions.
o Actively participate in long-term strategic planning and lead the assessment of organizational development needs to proactively integrate employee development into RCU's business goals.
Training & Development:
o Lead the Educational Development team, set clear goals, manage performance, and ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.
o Develop and track meaningful metrics to measure the impact of organizational performance and productivity.
o Create and implement comprehensive leadership and professional development programs that align with RCU’s business goals and enhance team member skills and capabilities.
o Deliver ongoing leadership and management training programs to support personnel planning and management across the leadership team.
o Design and implement development programs that address competency gaps and enhance career growth, succession planning, and organizational learning to include emerging competencies related to digital literacy and AI fluency.
Budget Management:
o Manage the budget for Educational & Development departments, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining high-quality programs.
o Oversee the development and negotiation of contracts with external vendors and consultants, ensuring that services meet RCU’s needs and standards.
o Lead continuous improvement efforts in training, ensuring they evolve to meet changing business needs and industry standards, including innovations in AI-powered learning and automation.
Other functions:
o Perform other duties as assigned.
o Participate in community events, volunteer boards, and professional associations.

Minimum Qualification: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven experience in strategic management, particularly in a distributed workforce setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of training, organizational development, and performance improvement principles.
  • Highly skilled in designing and delivering training to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and front-line staff.
  • Strong leadership abilities to influence and motivate team members at all levels.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management, managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Ability to engage, influence, and build credibility with individuals across the organization.
  • In-depth understanding of strategic planning related to organizational development.
  • Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using office software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations) and understanding of HR systems, with the ability to learn and adapt to AI-enabled applications that support learning and workforce development.
  • Ability to analyze business problems and opportunities, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Ability to engage in verbal/written communication with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) preferred
The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business administration, instructional systems design, communications, human resources or similar, with a minimum of ten years of related experience in a financial institution and a minimum of three years of progressive leadership experience. Familiarity with AI-supported learning tools and practices or willingness to develop competence in AI-related technologies preferred.
 
Compensation: Base starting range: $174,726 to $194,280 annually commensurate with experience.
Our base salary starting range is based on scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity. We offer a competitive total rewards package including a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit/stand for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
• Manual dexterity to operate office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.
• This position requires occasional travel to other office locations, and some evening or
weekend work may be necessary to meet project deadlines or attend events.
