Director of Payroll Operations

Hybrid- In-Office/Home- Brentwood, TN

Full Time- M-F Day Shift


Position Overview


A large, multi-state healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to lead enterprise payroll operations supporting approximately 55,000 employees nationwide. This role oversees payroll operations while serving as the functional leader for Oracle Payroll, partnering closely with HR, Finance, and IT to optimize systems and drive continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise-wide, multi-state payroll operations.
  • Provide leadership to a payroll organization consisting of two Payroll Managers and approximately 40 indirect team members.
  • Serve as the business lead and subject matter expert for Oracle Payroll.
  • Manage post-go-live Oracle Payroll activities, including quarterly release testing, payroll validation, troubleshooting, and system enhancements.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple payroll cycles.
  • Drive process improvements, operational efficiencies, and payroll automation initiatives.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to improve payroll processes, reporting, and system functionality.
  • Support the continued optimization and expansion of the organization's Oracle Payroll environment.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Hands-on Oracle Payroll experience is required.
  • Experience supporting Oracle Payroll post-implementation, including release testing, validation, troubleshooting, enhancements, and ongoing optimization.
  • Experience serving as the Payroll business lead or payroll SME in partnership with HRIS and IT teams.
  • Multi-state payroll leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, payroll accounting, and payroll operations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion Payroll and Oracle HCM.
  • Experience leading payroll transformation, process improvement, and automation initiatives.
