Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough and compassionate assessments for clients seeking treatment for substance use disorders, focusing on their unique needs and recovery goals.
  • Design tailored treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based interventions and therapeutic approaches, ensuring the best possible outcomes for clients.
  • Deliver individualized counseling sessions that utilize motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and other clinically recognized techniques to promote positive change.
  • Facilitate engaging group therapy sessions that foster a sense of community and support among clients in recovery.
  • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, addiction specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that care remains integrated and comprehensive throughout the patient's journey.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during substance-related emergencies, ensuring immediate care for patients in distress.
  • Educate clients and families on addiction recovery strategies, available community resources, and the importance of ongoing support networks.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation in accordance with both legal standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, sharing insights and strategies to continually improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and best practices in substance use disorder treatment through ongoing professional development and training.
Patient Population / Client Focus

As a Mental Health Counselor at Optum Health, you will primarily work with individuals grappling with substance use disorders, including those experiencing co-occurring mental health issues. Our diverse patient population includes adults from various backgrounds and walks of life, each with unique challenges and recovery journeys. Your role will involve not only facilitating therapy but also providing compassionate support and understanding tailored to each individual’s situation.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid licensure as a LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or PSYD in Washington state.
  • Proven experience in mental health counseling, particularly in substance use disorder treatment.

Compensation and Benefits
