Position Description

Optometric Technician

Reports to: Owner

Patient Care Department

Primary Objectives of Optometric Technician:

Facilitating the process of bringing patients back to see the doctor, gathering information in the form of communication with patients and performing optometric tests, and helping the doctor stay on time. Help the entire team promote a valuable and pleasant experience for patients while they are receiving care at Parmer Eye Care.

General Duties of Optometric Technician:

  • Take patients into prelim/exam rooms in a timely manner.

  • Pay attention to the schedule and time of day

  • Respond to direction and requests from other employees when asked.

  • Communicate well, so patients understand the process.

  • Perform prelim testing correctly, efficiently and effectively.

  • Perform medical testing correctly, efficiently and effectively.

  • Document results in patient’s records.

  • Make sure rooms are quickly cleaned, organized, and made ready for patients/doctors.

  • Be prepared to assist doctors in procedures and extra testing.

  • Examples: Zest, Lipiflow, OCT’s, Fundus photos, etc.

  • Assist in training new employees.

  • Just as you were new at one point and received help, pass on your experience and skills to each person who comes along.

  • Help us to improve on the process! Training can always be improved.

  • Maintain a positive attitude with patients/doctors/co-workers.
