Job description

About Kuecker Pulse Integration (KPI)
Created in July 2021 as a result of combination of Kuecker Logistics Group, PULSE Integration and QC Software by private equity firm Ares Management, Kuecker Pulse Integration (KPI) is a systems integrator that seeks out leading technologies within the areas of material handling equipment and information systems and combines them with proven design and operational strategies to help improve our customers' operations. Our talented group of industry experts combine the powers of scalable material handling systems, innovative software and custom automation engineering for complete, unique solutions that help companies, across a broad spectrum of industry segments, become leaders in their industries. We are equipment agnostic, and our solutions incorporate leading technologies such as mobile robots, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), automated guided vehicles (AGV), goods-to-person technology, sortation, and conveyor. KPI currently has approximately 300 FTEs and $150m revenue with growth expected to double in size (at a minimum) through organic and acquisitive activities.
Position Summary
KPI Solutions is seeking an on-shore Workflow Architect to lead the design, migration, and simplification of business processes across our Opto WES platform. This role owns the technical direction of KPI's workflow orchestration domain and provides day-to-day technical leadership to CapBPM, KPI's business process management (BPM) and workflow development partner.
In practice, this means building and governing workflows using business process management and mapping tools, leading migrations between workflow engines, and driving the adoption of no-code process design so that both technical and non-technical stakeholders can build, understand, and maintain workflows with confidence. The Workflow Architect is the single accountable technical authority for workflow across KPI Solutions.
About the CapBPM Partnership
CapBPM is a business process management and mapping tool provider specializing in Camunda BPM, workflow migration, and no-code process design. KPI Solutions maintains a documented partnership with CapBPM in which CapBPM's engineering team supports and extends KPI's BPM and automation initiatives - building and maintaining the workflow logic that powers the Opto WES platform.
The Workflow Architect sits at the center of this partnership: setting the architectural standards and roadmap that CapBPM's team builds against, reviewing their designs and deliverables for quality and platform alignment, and ensuring that workflow migrations and no-code process initiatives are executed consistently and at the right level of technical rigor. This is a dual-mandate role - architectural ownership of the workflow domain, paired with direct technical leadership of the CapBPM delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
Workflow & Process Design
  • Own the architectural direction and roadmap for the workflow/BPM domain within the Opto WES platform, using business process management and mapping tools to model, document, and govern how processes run.
  • Define standards, reference patterns, and design guardrails for workflow modeling, deployment, and runtime behavior.
  • Champion no-code process design so business and product stakeholders can build and adjust workflows without engineering bottlenecks, while maintaining architectural guardrails.
  • Drive resolution of architectural debt, including elimination of per-customer workflow-copy anti-patterns in favor of a configurable, multi-tenant-aware model.

Workflow Migration & Engine Strategy
  • Lead the technical planning and execution of workflow migrations, including moving legacy or fragmented workflows onto a consolidated BPM platform (e.g., Camunda).
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on workflow engine strategy - licensing, total cost of ownership, and migration considerations - supported by cost-benefit analysis and proof-of-concept evidence.
  • Author and maintain blueprint definitions, decision memos, and ARB-ready architecture artifacts.

CapBPM Team Leadership & Delivery
  • Provide day-to-day technical direction to the CapBPM engineering team, translating architectural intent into actionable, well-scoped work.
  • Review CapBPM's designs and implementations for adherence to standards, quality, and platform alignment before merge and release.
  • Manage technical flow-down and intake for the CapBPM team, reducing go-to-person dependencies through documented patterns and clear ownership.
  • Track delivery health (estimate accuracy, carry-over, completion, defect spillover) and escalate risks to KPI leadership.
  • Partner with CapBPM on staffing mix, ramp, and capability gaps relative to roadmap demand.

Cross-Functional & Governance
  • Represent the workflow domain in Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions and platform roadmap planning.
  • Coordinate workflow dependencies with product, project delivery, and DevSecOps teams across active client implementations.
  • Provide executive-ready reporting on workflow direction, delivery status, and key decisions.

What Success Look Like
  • Measurable progression of published, agreed workflow architecture direction with a defined blueprint and standards set.
  • Measurable improvement in CapBPM team delivery health and reduction in architectural debt.
  • A decision-ready recommendation on workflow engine strategy backed by CBA and TCO analysis within 60 days.
  • Established, repeatable intake, workstreams, and review processes that reduce single-point-of-knowledge risk.

Requirements
  • 8+ years in software engineering with deep experience designing and operating workflow/BPM or orchestration systems (e.g., Camunda, Flowable, or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with business process management and mapping tools, workflow migration projects, and no-code/low-code process design.
  • Demonstrated architecture ownership of a production platform, including standards definition and design governance.
  • Strong backend engineering foundation: Java / Spring Boot, REST integration, and microservice patterns.
  • Experience providing technical leadership to distributed or vendor-staffed engineering teams.
  • Proven ability to make and defend technology decisions using cost-benefit analysis, TCO modeling, and proof-of-concept work.
  • Excellent written communication, including architecture documentation and executive-level reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in WES / WMS, warehouse automation, or industrial orchestration domains.
  • Familiarity with multi-tenant configuration strategies and platform consolidation initiatives.
  • Direct experience with CapBPM or comparable BPM/mapping tool providers, and BPM licensing negotiation.
