Job description

The System Director, Operations Performance is a system-level operational leader responsible for advancing enterprise operational performance through analytics, productivity improvement, operational redesign, performance advisory, and execution support. This role partners with system leadership, regional operations, clinical leaders, finance, strategy, quality, and analytics teams to improve operational effectiveness, reduce variation, strengthen accountability, and achieve measurable improvements across the health system.
The System Director serves as a key driver of operational alignment by translating performance data into actionable strategies, establishing standardized performance practices, and supporting leaders in achieving organizational goals related to productivity, efficiency, financial performance and access.
This role focuses on improving how the health system operates as an integrated enterprise by identifying opportunities, optimizing processes, aligning resources, and supporting leaders through operational transformation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead enterprise operational performance initiatives focused on productivity, efficiency, financial improvement, and operational reliability.
  • Provide operational performance advisory support to leaders by identifying trends, performance gaps, operational risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Finance, Analytics, Operations, Quality, and Clinical teams to develop standardized dashboards, scorecards, KPIs, and reporting structures.
  • Translate operational performance data into actionable recommendations, improvement plans, and executive-level insights.
  • Drive alignment of productivity expectations, operational standards, and performance targets across regions, facilities, and service lines.
  • Lead operational redesign efforts to reduce variation, improve workflows, optimize resources, and enhance system performance.
  • Support development of enterprise standards, governance structures, accountability mechanisms, and performance improvement practices.
  • Partner with leaders to evaluate current-state performance, develop future-state solutions, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Support productivity initiatives through benchmarking, workforce optimization, capacity management, and utilization analysis.
  • Establish consistent approaches for project prioritization, execution tracking, and enterprise initiative management.
  • Facilitate operational performance reviews by monitoring progress, identifying barriers, and supporting accountability.
  • Develop executive presentations, business cases, performance summaries, and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Operations, Finance, Analytics, or related field.
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience in healthcare operations, performance improvement, operational excellence, transformation, or a related field.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives within a healthcare system, multi-site, or enterprise environment.
  • Experience with performance management, KPI development, productivity measurement, operational analytics, and executive reporting.
  • Strong analytical, financial, communication, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate operational data into actionable strategies and measurable improvements.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or related field.
  • Lean Six Sigma, PMP, Change Management, or other operational excellence certification.
  • Experience with healthcare productivity methodologies, workforce optimization, benchmarking, capacity management, and process improvement.
  • Experience developing enterprise scorecards, dashboards, governance structures, and performance management systems.
