Job description

Business Development Manager
Commercial AV amp; Lighting
Winter Park, FL | On-Site
Some people are naturally wired to build relationships.
They're the ones who enjoy meeting new people, spotting opportunities others miss, and earning trust long before anyone is ready to buy. They don't wait for business to come to them. They create it.
If you're energized by opening doors, solving business challenges, and winning complex opportunities, this could be the role you've been looking for.
At ZIO, we design and integrate commercial audiovisual, lighting control, and smart building technology that transforms how people work, collaborate, and experience spaces. From corporate offices and hospitality to healthcare, education, and luxury environments, we simplify complex technology and deliver solutions that last.
We're growing, and we're looking for a Business Development Manager who wants to help drive that growth.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Business Development Manager, you'll own the front end of the sales process by creating opportunities, building relationships, and guiding strategic projects from the first conversation through signed contract.
You'll work alongside our engineering, operations, and project delivery teams while maintaining ownership of your pipeline and your results.
You will:
  • Develop relationships with commercial property owners, developers, architects, engineers, designers, consultants, general contractors, and other key decision makers throughout Central Florida.
  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities while building a healthy pipeline of future work.
  • Lead consultative discovery conversations that uncover business needs and position ZIO as a trusted technology partner.
  • Own strategic sales opportunities from prospecting through proposal, negotiation, and close.
  • Expand existing customer relationships through additional projects, service agreements, and long-term technology planning.
  • Represent ZIO at networking events, industry associations, and community organizations to strengthen market presence and generate new opportunities.
  • Partner with our outsourced marketing team to develop campaigns and materials that support business development efforts.
  • Maintain accurate forecasting, pipeline activity, and opportunity tracking within our CRM and ERP systems.
  • Protect project profitability by balancing customer value with healthy margins.
  • Leverage modern AI-enabled sales tools to improve efficiency, research prospects, and strengthen customer engagement.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys building relationships and creating opportunities.
You know how to earn trust, ask thoughtful questions, navigate complex sales cycles, and stay disciplined enough to consistently build pipeline while managing active opportunities.
You don't wait for someone to hand you your next lead. You create momentum through initiative, persistence, and follow-through.
You likely fit this role if you:
  • Have a proven track record of success in B2B business development or consultative solution sales.
  • Have experience selling commercial AV, lighting, technology integration, construction, engineering, or other complex project-based solutions (preferred).
  • Are comfortable engaging executive, operational, and technical decision makers.
  • Can confidently manage long sales cycles with multiple stakeholders.
  • Understand CRM discipline, forecasting, and pipeline management.
  • Communicate professionally and build credibility with both clients and internal teams.
  • Take ownership of your commitments and follow through without being chased.
  • Embrace new technology and are comfortable using—or excited to learn—AI-powered sales tools.
  • Want the opportunity to grow your career as the company continues to expand.
Growth Opportunity
ZIO is intentionally building its commercial sales organization.
For someone who consistently delivers results and enjoys helping others succeed, this role offers a path toward a future sales leadership position while remaining actively involved in business development.
If leadership isn't your goal, that's okay too. Outstanding individual contributors are equally valued here.
Why ZIO?
At ZIO, we believe exceptional technology starts with exceptional people.
We operate using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), giving our team clear expectations, accountability, and the freedom to make decisions that move the business forward.
Our Core Values guide everything we do:
  • Be Proactive
  • Be Accountable
  • Be Resilient
If you're someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems, and wants to help build something meaningful alongside a growing team, we'd love to meet you.
How to Apply amp; What Happens Next:

We receive a significant amount of applications and we're a small team. That means you need to stand out to actually get reviewed by the hiring manager (who does not see every application!) Please follow these steps carefully or your application likely won't get to a hiring manager!
Step 1: Write a brief cover letter and answer the following questions.
1. In your own words, what makes for a great AV or lighting system design, and how do you approach ensuring performance and reliability?
2. Tell us about a project where you took a conceptual design and turned it into a fully engineered solution. What challenges did you solve along the way?
3. Your designs will be executed by field teams. How do you ensure your drawings, documentation, and technical guidance are clear and can be installed accurately?
4. Technology changes quickly in this industry. How do you stay current, and can you share an example of applying a new standard or product to improve a system design?
5. We value accountability, resilience, and proactivity. Pick one of these values and share a story that shows you've demonstrated it in a leadership or operations role.
Step 2: Apply with a combined document including your cover letter, answers to the above questions amp; your resume.
Step 3: Use this link to complete the predictive index assessment: https://assessment.predictiveindex.com/bo/6M3D/ZIOEngineerCommercialAVLighting3583
Step 4: If you're successful in demonstrating you have what it takes for this role, you’ll go through a structured interview process—including video meetings, and on-site interviews.
We’ll send regular updates on where things stand with your application. From application to offer, the timeline varies but we'll be happy to tell you where we stand in the process.
If you've read this far, and this sounds like you - this is your opportunity to join the ZIO team!
We look forward to hearing from you!
ZIO is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug-Free Workplace.
